E3 has come and gone once again. And for me the most exciting thing was the announcement of a pair of Metroid titles. In celebration, I decided to draw my favorite bounty hunter once again! The first 2D Metroid title in 13 years...I am so ready for this!
I haven't drawn a piece in this comic book ink style in quite some time, and it was a lot of fun to do! I tried my best to make the Power Suit look like the new design they debuted with Metroid: Samus Returns. Unfortunately, screen shots were all I had to go off of. But I really like the new design for the suit. Part sleek and part heavy duty, with some cool new lines to boot. I really hope they use it for the next Smash Bros title.

I may not draw it very much, but Metroid is one of my favorite series. It's up there with Smash Bros in terms of how much I enjoy it. I guess I didn't think I was good enough to draw Metroid fan art. But the response people have to this image suggests otherwise.
I am so ready for those. And I'm glad that the remake comes out so soon too! (Well, Samus has made me wait before. There was a seven year gap between Super Metroid and Metroid Prime + Metroid Fusion too.)

I'm newer to the series when it comes to Metroid as I did not first play it until the Wii came out. One thing I LOVED about the Wii is it introduced the Virtual Console, which allowed me to experience many games I missed out on. While I did start of with a NES and then a SNES, I'd gotten them from yard sales so I was limited to the amount of games I had. The Nintendo 64 was the first true console I owned an when I got caught up with gaming. So with the Wii I was able to go back and play allot of old games such as Castlevania, Breath of Fire 2 and Metriod and so on.
Its likely why I was not as mad about Metriod Other M as many other of its fans. I really loved the passion Samus had for Adam, how he was like a father to her. I like seeing emotion and having characters feel human, something they care about so you have an idea of what they fight for. I do agree it had its flaws and it could have been handled better, the story was a mess...but despite that that human element really made it up for me personally.
So I've played Super Metroid which I beat, Metroid 2 and Metroid other M.

That's what makes the Virtual Console such a great idea. For me, it's about relieving classic titles and having an extra copy of them. And for you, it let you get to play them for the first time. Of course, I have an older brother. Because of him I got to try out a lot of games and had things like the SNES handed down to me.
I didn't think Other M was that bad. I liked the gameplay. But my major problems with it were the Ridley scene and how linear it was. You basically were directed on a path the whole time. And nice. If you can, get Metroid Prime, Metroid Fusion, and Metroid Zero Mission. Those are really excellent entries.

Yeah that was a downside of Other M, it took out the feeling of exploration.
I do have the Prime games, as I got the Metroid Prime Collection. Its just different playing Samus in first person view. I prefer the 2D titles where you get to see Samus, but I do own it if I ever desire to go back. 
Also want to get that SNES mini. Super excited Star Fox 2 is finally getting a official release.
