I learned by messing around with watercolor paints ALOT! Salt adds some cool textures to the paint as well, depending upon the thickness.
I'm happy you liked the painting

This is amazing! The smoke pouring out of the shell is as beautiful as it is mysterious. You did an amazing job painting the smoke pattern with artistic swirls which give the whole piece a nice, gentle sense of motion. I love how the coyote's dress is blending into the sky near the bottom-left of the piece, as if she could dissipate into nothingness at any moment just like the smoke. The salty texture gives the sky a lovely starry look, and the colors impart a wonderful moonlit mood.
On top of it all, the coyote's knowing smirk. She knows what's going on. Oooh, and what a pretty pendant she's wearing! It's great how that accessory re-introduces the sky colors into that area of her body to round out the color scheme without sinking her into the scenery.
Must fav!

Thank you! I'm happy you liked it. I painted it with a kid's watercolor tray...they didn't have other options in Brasil where I was at. It was really fun to paint.

You're welcome. A kid's watercolor tray? Wow! Well, art is more about one's skills and imagination than their supplies. But kid's watercolors can be frustrating and now I have even more admiration for what you've done here with them!
