I'd actually kind of like to see this as a holiday based episode for Season 5. I mean, come on, how many seasons more can the series go on without just telling us what happened to the parents? it's obvious most of the fanbase isn't little kids. They can handle knowing the story, even if it IS depressing.

Applejack, you have three other ponies of your family that you live with. The only other Mane 6 pony with any sort of family is Pinkie Pie, and she's more adoptive.
Look Applejack, I'm not trying to be cruel, I'm just trying to tell you to be grateful for all the ponies in your family that you still have.

You have a beautiful future with many happy years, they will have their share of sadnesses but they will also have their share of pleasure and treasure so don't kick the bucket but be a heel clicking buccaneer!

Best pony is happy so I should say this picture is fine.
Actually, though it may sound bad, I would actually like for their parents to be dead. It gives the show a kind of depth not shown on other programs. It's sad, it is actually tragic, but still one can't know happiness if one hasn't know sadness.

Where'd you read that official statement? I know it is official now... but I want to read that bit of confirmation, too.
And it truly is a bittersweet scene you've crafted here. They're all still happy and together... AJ just needs a moment. I had thought I had read a spoiler when someone said 'Applejack's parents made it to the reunion after all'... then, after not only just noticing they were absent the entire time, but seeing those two stars shoot by... it clicked, and dem feels that came afterwards..... It was a beautifully bittersweet moment, a lot like this picture. :')
...And I see Big Mac had no intentions on returning Smarty Pants. XD
