Updated with new eyeshines that are more glossySo rendering the psd via photoshop removed a ton of SAI-specific luminance from the orignal image that i didnt's notice was gone. (You can notice it if you compare, luminance in the eyes and iris, in the mane, and shading in the trees.) It left the eyes a lot more dull. I just updated it now. Here's the old version for those who prefer a more flat look
In case you think she looks a bit young, that's cause she is! I wanted to capture the innocence of a young adult celestia before her conflict with luna :3
Finally finished her!! Only took like 30-40 hours total >.> I'm 100% happy with this picture and could not have hoped for a better turnout ^-^ So cute! So pretty! So kawaii! Look at dem eyes, dat mane, dat flank. Mmm.
Nothing like a cool, refreshing dip in your favorite stream to wash away the cares of the world! Celestia's probably my favorite pony due to aesthetics, though I do like luna, twi and fluttershy.

In the event that it's not already obvious, the pose was heavily referenced from a piece by -- it began as an exercise in understanding how the circle guides related to the finished picture, so I could better plan pictures in the future

Beautiful work.
Hair: The realism in the hair is remarkable. However, I would make it seem more wet (and more shine maybe, darken)----at least that's what it looks like it should be.
Body: I'd suggest more contrast in the shadows. Overall, the body seems the least realistic part of the piece. I completely understand. For example, when making a realistic portrait, in my case the clothes look really cartoon-y compared to the rest. Try making it less outlined.
Eye: Wonderful shading in the eye. However, It looks very "copy-pasted". It doesn't look like it is part of her face.
Background: I love the light-hearted feel and the lighting is beautiful. However, the rocks are lacking roughness. I understand Celestia is the focus, however the rocks, trees, and water look too perfect.
General statement: Overall certain parts don't fit in with the feel and style. It's lacking depth. (Ex: Celestia looks less realistic than the background and copy and pasted, the eyes look painted on her face rather than a part)

I saw this piece on Equestria Daily, and immediately knew I loved it. Celestia is just adorable and gorgeous in this picture, and it's beautiful overall.
I gave a four on originality only because recently I have seen a lot of off duty or younger Celestia pictures, but this has to be my favorite.
As for technique, at first it is a bit strange to have only her body have lines, especially when her hair is cradling her face in such a way. But it doesn't detract anything overall I think. Without them you would have to darken the shadows of her coat, but that wouldn't fit the aura of the picture nearly as much. The eyes, which are more realistically shadowed than some details fit perfectly, and I love the water. But as for the leaves, in the background, which are a much darker color, I think some darker shadows would look nice, to show depth contrasting the subject in the front.
I absolutely love this piece! Your description of her youth before rule makes it sort of bittersweet, which I like. But even so, just looking at this picture makes me happy. You are a brilliant artist!

I really like your art style and the colors you used in this picture. I especially like the mane and tail - those lines are just totes awesome.
I gave four stars for originality because the picture looks pretty similar to "White Swan" by Adlynh, BUT I will be honest with you: if I had to choose between the two pictures, I would definitely choose yours because of its impact.
As for the impact, this picture makes me want to be there and hug Celestia. It's a stunning place with a stunning princess. For some reason, her eyes and the smile make me feel very happy - which is a good point because I smile every time I see this picture. If I was a huge Celestia fan, I would set this picture as my desktop wallpaper in a heartbeat.

Hi! Sorry for all the reactions you had about your drawing. There's some similarities in the whole aspect of the drawing but I don't see a stolen art or plagiarism, just a inspiration. I'm okay with that, I don't do serious business with ponies and people using my art as inspiration don't bother me as long as it's not used for commercial purpose. BTW I'm happy some people use my drawings as reference and happy that other people cares enough about my art to point similarities!

it is NOT plagerism in the slightest, they are not even the same picture, just the same theme, it is barely even near the same picture, plagerism would be if she copied the picture right from its source and posted it as her own

While I'm happy you show concern for the artwork of others and integrity of artists, this is not plagiarism. I'm a bit disappointed you'd accuse me of plagiarizing. Plagiarism is taking someone else's work and claiming it as your own. Even if it's a recreation or a redraw, that's still not plagiarism in the sense of what that word means. It's a serious accusation.
I used Adlynh's white swan as a reference, and I don't hide that fact at all. In fact I showed myself using it as a reference even during the initial stream sketches. Just like in this one My wip post had the reference up in the top left corner. Referencing is NOT plagiarism. Referencing is 100% necessary to ensure you're doing things right.
Just a summary of the differences between the two pictures:
-Different background setting. Waterfall as opposed to lake
- Different head position, 3/4th, not side view
- closed wing, not open wing
- no shadows on celestia
- no flowers in the river
- open eye
- different artstyle
- Different body shape, the reference has a much higher butt, smaller head, forward ear, etc.
I use references to get an idea for what the picture should look like, as well as proper proportions because that's how artists learn to draw. Considfering I've been drawing for.. what, 7 months? That's not an unrealistic thing to do. If you're more interested in how to learn to draw using references I suggest you take a peek at www.reddit.com/r/MLPdrawingsch… . In fact, well-known artist Viwrastupr specifically gave a guide for how to deconstruct reference pics to make your own paintings to practice
Again, I'm glad you're in favour of protecting artists you like, but please rest assured that there was no plagiarism going on here.

My point is there's a difference between using a reference, and flat-out copying an art piece. Using it as a reference would mean using the picture to get a feel for what pose the subject should be in, or what the subject should actually look like to stick to canon. What you're doing is just redrawing things. You're starting with another drawing, and completely copying it. You had no obligation to make this picture of Celestia playing around in the water, but you did anyway. You had no obligation to even make it Celestia in the picture. You could've made it Luna if you're that good of an artist. Or any other princess, so that way at least you're making something new.
What you're doing here is just redrawing things and slapping your name on them. Yes it's possible, but you're not creating anything new. Don't beg for money on Patreon if you can't even make original art.

I don't beg. I work a day job, and can completely support myself. The purpose of my patreon is to allow me to devote MORE time to art that I would previously need to spend working. I'll assure you that my patrons are exactly aware of my methods; and while you may have the opinion that I'm nothing but a phony, I'll be sure to place the weight of that opinion exactly where it belongs: In the same place I hold my respect for you.
How about you? What exactly are you doing that's contributing to the community? How are YOU spending your time creating content for others? Oh, wait, you either DONT have the creativity, skill, ability, or willpower to do what I do; OR you use a throwaway to call me out in fear of tarnishing your own reputation.

I'm in the second bracket there, mostly because I've known about you for quite a while and frankly fucking hate you. I knew there was something going on behind the scenes.
And for the record, yes, yes I am jealous. I'm jealous that you're able to straight-up copy art and call it your own, and make money off it. I'm jealous that you have so many people sucking your dick because they think you don't turn to a gajillion other artists for help while you're still drawing something. Your art's barely even yours if half of it is plucked straight from other artists and practically traced from your references.

I was quite aware it was the second bracket. I'll be honest, I'm actually disappointed and saddened by it being confirmed, though. I only know of a very small handful of people I know who have shown signs of jealousy and who have done art and who are based in the USA, and based on your typing patterns, it's not a stretch to infer who it is. And frankly, I'm pretty disappointed. I hope that you can eventually get past this roadblock and keep on drawing. I know you'll get to the point where you're happier with your art, you just gotta keep at it.

Wrong. I 100% tell people time and time again how I learn to draw, how I reference, how I learn, how I get feedback. I have 100% transparency with my patrons, my clients, and my fans. They've all been my patrons for longer than my work's been actually sell-worthy. This aside, EVEN IF what you say were true regarding tracing, there's a significant distance between being able to trace and being able to physically model things in 3d in your head to shade properly, add texture properly, and make it an actual picture. However, I don't trace my work, and if you actually checked the lines like I said in the last post you'll notice that they don't line up at all, because they're not the same fucking drawing, ya dingus.

You know what you could do instead of purposefully and with intent, trying to discredit and discourage the very people you find good enough to be jealous of? Instead of trying to cause a scene to cause some horse drama to further a socially political agenda? You could ask me. Ask me for help, ask me for advice, ask me why I feel it's okay to reference art, or even ask me what extent to which I reference. Instead of assuming the worst of people. In case you havn't been living under a rock, you'll note that I respond to as many comments as I can to answer questions and will even go out of my way to critique shit from people if they ask nicely.
