Description Wow my first tutorial. Triggered by a "How to put on a BLEACH cosplay" question asked on cosplay.com.

I hope it's helpful. If it is, please let me know! (I can't know if no one comments/favs). I'm looking to do more tutorials in the future, so if there's something you'd like to see, lemme know!

EDIT: fixed poor word choices and some sentences they may have not made sense/were confusing.

EDIT2: edit: All right! People have been asking me what patterns I used for this cosplay and where they can find them.

For the kosode (kimono top), I used Butterick B4072 which they don't seem to have on their site anymore. But this = www.tias.com/stores/joespaper/… is what the pattern looks like for the picture reference. As long as it's a top that looks similar to that (model in the upper left hand corner), you should be fine. I extended the pattern length wise as you can see in the tutorial above.

For the hakama, a friend of mine gave me the pattern, but then I lost it. But thankfully someone else linked me to 4chan where they had the pattern uploaded. And since it's probably not there anymore, I have it uploaded here = www.mediafire.com/download.php… for you to download. It's a PDF file and also, it deals with a lot of math, but it works!

Excellent tutorial!
I'm wondering...do you remember approximately how many yards of fabric you used for the whole thing?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

AuroraCelsius In reply to UndyingMongoose [2012-10-27 14:50:03 +0000 UTC]

Thank you! And no, I actually don't. And on top of that, I tend to overbuy how much I need vs how much I actually use. The top parts I doubled in fabric while the hakama I didn't.

The top of the front hakama should be more gathered like the back is. Also, it really helps to tie string the under kimono so it stays in place (done with real kimonos too).

However, that being said, it annoys me to no end when people line a kosode with white.

👍: 0 ⏩: 0

vincentvonduhm [2011-05-16 14:18:09 +0000 UTC]

Actually, the white under-kimono is a Shitagi. Also, the "obi" is actually the hakama belts. Look at the backs of the Non-captains, and you'll see the placard in the back is outside of the white.

Thank you ve~~~ry much for this tutorial! *grins* I just about had a heart attack earlier when the shihakushou I ordered arrived, and I realized just how different it is from a woman's kimono or yukata. *laughs* Then started desperately searching and ran into this, which was absolutely prefect~<3 So yes - thank you for allowing me to make sure the whole thing worked, and that I'd know what to do when the next con comes around. xD

I'm glad to hear it.

Yup, made the entire outfit. Um I took a kimono top pattern and extended it. Also there's a hakama tutorial floating around. If you need the exact patterns I used, lemme know. Yeah! It only took me roughly a week (with other things going on) to make it.
