I've been too artblocked/depression'd to work on commissions for awhile so I went back and finished this piece I started ages ago but never completed (I also ALMOST finished my cetacean secret santa art today....... I'm getting a little ahead of myself on that one;;; it's gonna be so hard to wait until christmas to post it! though for secret santas maybe you can post before christmas??? I'm not sure, but it feels right to wait ahaha)anyways
this is a self portrait, about what it felt like to spend the summer in Maine kayaking in the ocean almost every day. sometimes the locals are crows and seals instead of other human beings

oh goodness it's so precious seeing art that relays such personal experiences and emotions. i love the mood you captured here (wonderfully supported by that lovely music like THANK U BBC) and it's such a cool composition. really works well with conveying the concept of parallel societies. one from the sky, one from land and one from the sea. beautiful how they all come together!

thank you so much! I honestly had the composition for this scene floating around in my head for so long (much of the time was also spent literally floating, in the conveniently depicted kayak above LOL) that I'm glad the inspiration stuck with me long enough for me to actually get it out of my brain and onto the canvas. I always miss these neighbors of air and sea any time I'm away from the northern coastsΒ

and I definitely agree! while it's true we are special in that our unique combination of brainpower+hands has allowed us to change the entirety of the planet we live on, we are still a part of nature, just like everything else. I think it's the attitude that we are above nature that wreaks havoc upon our home and the other life that shares it with us!
