(Note: As this is a really old piece now I used a lot of photo reference and tracing and in my opinion it came out making the image look very static so I wouldn't recommend it myself, still, I learnt a lot from this piece!)
Here's an illustration based on World War Z that I did for my last Conceptual Illustration project for university. I handed it in a while ago but have been chipping away at it slowly to get it to where I wanted. I added colour, more details and changed a few bits around.
I tried elements of photo-manipulation in the piece as well as digital painting, it didn't really pay off how I wanted, but was an interesting learning experience.
I actually listened to the WWZ audio book on youtube as I painted it (the night before it was due haha). It's a really awesome piece of zombie fiction and the audiobook is done really well by a variety of actors. Check it out: www.youtube.com/watch?v=lGzFaE…
This was all painted completely in Photoshop CS5, but I used a LOT of photo references for this one and tried to get the zombies looking realistic and not too cartoony. I used a picture of my car as reference for the one in the foreground and a photograph that I took in the US for the sky. Heres the list of online references I used (the first one contains nudity):

This artwork has demonstrated a rather precise capture of what it'll be like at a zombie outbreak.
I personally admire this deeply. I wish I could draw something as fantastic as this.

The first time I picked up WWZ, I fell in love with it. Once it was in my possession I couldn't stop reading it. The book actually had one illustration of one of the pivotal events, the Battle of Yonkers. The rest of the events were left up to the readers imagination. I like the fact that you illustrated the Great Panic. Excellent work.
