It isn't normally supposed to be a hydra. It's always a single head swallowing a single tail, to symbolize cyclicity.

The split tails entering different jaws represent the fact that things don't always turn out a certain way [[more importantly, they don't always turn out the way we want]]. But they enter the body again; Thus, everything goes on, even if it doesn't go as planned. They might also be interpreted as something akin to string theory

The gaping head also symbolizes the fact that things don't always go the way we want. For one thing, the other tails don't enter it: It may be perceived as an untraveled or missed path [[inb4 Robert Frost]]. Furthermore, the image itself wants-- it tries to grip the tail, but fails to.

Or maybe it's just a big dragon, and I'm full of shit.
