Description
Update 11/05/2018: Fixed the lighting a bit since I've been working on a few things. Hope it looks more metal(ish). sorry about the optics looking dead, will be adding lighting to them soon.Been doing grayscale studies and decided to post this one! Also, a new oc!
Any constructive criticism is appreciated!

This looks fantastic, the grey scale gives it quite a moody feel

Studying in gray scale is a great way to improve colouring and understanding of values.
This is a lovely digital painting, I personally struggle to do line-less artwork so I gotta appreciate how nicely you were able to paint this character.
Something to keep in mind while doing gray studies is how well the character reads; I usually try to look at the drawing as a small thumbnail or squint my eyes to see if I can still tell what the subject of the piece is supposed to be. Your character as an overall silhouette reads nicely, the individual parts of her are a bit harder to tell apart though. Something to keep in mind is that in any piece the main focus of the piece should have the brightest whites and the darkest blacks on it; you've got the dark colours but no whites. I'd suggest pushing your highlights in future pieces, I'd personally say make the eyes brighter since those typically glow on Transformers, as well as add some highlights on the metal where the light source is.
This is a beautifully done piece and a really fun character design, I'm really looking forward to seeing more from you!

Perhaps I should create more contrast between the individual parts? I'll see what I can do about making them pop out. Adding the bright highlights and whites is something I'm always hesitant to add as I feel it might be a bit much but looking at other paintings that have metal in it I can see what you mean. Didn't think to make the eyes bright as I forgot it was a robot and not an organic being as humans was what I was studying before I worked on this one. XD
Thank you very much for the constructive criticism! Rarely do I ever get it when I need it!

There's nothing wrong with playing around and finding something that fits your style best either. Lots of people colour their robots different ways c: Just remember not to treat metal the same as skin. I still struggle with colouring and shading for metal as well, it's not easy! Here are a few tutorials I found here on DA that might be helpful, and I'm sure there are oodles more on youtube.
No problem! I love being able to give feedback, I'm just always terrified of stepping on people's toes. I'll remember that you want critiques though and make an effort to leave you feedback on your pieces! If you're comfortable with it you're even welcome to message me with WIPs to ask for feedback, I'm always happy to help out!

I'll keep that in mind and thanks for the tutorials! I have a better understanding on how metal works and found some other useful tutorials on DA and youtube.
I try to leave some encouraging comments to younger/beginning artists since I rarely see any of the more experienced artists here give it but I feel the same on leaving constructive criticism and how scary it can be, especially when you're not sure if the artist would accept it or blow it out of proportion.
Alright! I'm sure I'll be messaging you some time in the future on any future piece since I tend to overlook things. Thanks for the help.

Awesome! I'm glad the tutorials were helpful and that you were able to find some of your own as well!
I look forward to hearing from you and seeing more of your work! Best of luck!
