Shit. This is so freaking awkward.

Zack inwardly squirmed with embarrassment as he tried fruitlessly to lift the deadweight ex-SOLDIER beside him. He just wanted to lean him against a wall. The floor was cold, filthy and bloodstained, and Zack felt icky about just leaving Genesis where he fell. Cure spells had done nothing to wake him, so this was his only option.

Grunting with effort, Zack finally managed to grasp a leather-clad arm around his shoulders. Bracing his legs, he lifted Genesis until he was sagging awkwardly against Zack's side. Without considering his opponent's altered anatomy, Zack went to support his back only to jam his arm into the underside of a wing.

"Damn," he whispered in surprise, feeling the alien sensation of feathers pushing against his skin. Suck it up. It's just a wing. Keep moving.

So this illustration is the cumulative result of me having too many feels over my own hecking fanfiction.
(Which is fun and great on the one hand, but in turn takes my attention away from writing the damn thing!)

Anywho, this is from Chapter 1 of my fanfic 'Thing With Feathers ' on AO3 (summary below):

In the aftermath of their gruelling battle in Modeoheim, Zack is victorious and Genesis has collapsed in exhaustion. However, instead of falling into the depths of the mako excavation facility, Genesis suffers from a terrible seizure and Zack finds himself face-to-face with the true horrors of degradation.

And he is left with a critical choice.

No pairings, friendship-focused, mentions of suicide/depression, piles of angst, hurt and comfort, ongoing.

Let me just say that anything involving Genesis or Modeoheim just gets me inside. It's been, what, 13 years? And it STILL gives me the sad feels.
(For instance, here's some art I did from TEN YEARS GO, HECK ).

Also, I just love the idea of Zack going 'screw this, Imma help this jerkface' and trying to understand Genesis somehow. That desire was probably that kicked off the entire story, really.

Okay. Enough rambles. I'll probably be drawing other scenes as the desire arises. Hope you all enjoy this smack-you-in-the-feels-fest!
