Beautiful the effect of the fallen leaves but I do not like the blurred out of the trees in the background, if you wanted to give an effect of manipulation you did because I think a lot of an image with the fallen leaves cut out of another photograph with blur effect at the bottom while in the background a photograph of a forest made blurred to give a sense of distance. I think you had to increase the transition space between the focus and the blur blurringin this way you made the cutout effect obtained with the transaction less clear

I don't have a certain techinque I'm trying to follow everytime i take a photo. I just try to take the picture as I see the world and those criteria you just mentioned above are just some rules that can be bent as an artist see fit.
I would've have appreciated your critique if you would follow your own guidelines.
