Topaz is a gem who can link with other gems to share experiences and memories...but she originally used her abilities to take and ravage the minds of rouge gems to quickly tear apart any rebellious tendencies found in the court of Yellow Diamond. As the Court Interrogator, she could rip through the minds of those given to her for processing, leaving some damaged beyond repair when pressed by superiors to quickly retrieve information about rebellion base of operations, fellow conspirators, safe places, family, friends...all forcefully ripped away and given to Court officials to quickly dispense and cleanse out those who did not conform to the Matriarch's rule.

After thousands of years of compliance, she could not bear to serve the Court any longer. Accepting to be shattered was a better fate than to live carrying the weight of her transgressions against those ultimately innocent: Only wishing for a life other than the one they were given.

How do you forgive yourself?
I don't know if I'll ever understand
How you can do such a thing.
Perhaps its because
Other people haven't done such terrible things
as I
Maybe its because
They do not carry their guilt
As they should
As I do.
Else they blame it on others
When all they have done
rests on themselves
alone.
Because I have ruined
So many lives
More than I can count
With all of my fingers
And toes.
All I have done
Rests within me
And so do their thoughts
Their feelings
Their loss
Their pain
Their suffering
At the hands of those
Who can forgive themselves.
I can never forget what I have done.

and my curse.

Whose minds I have ripped apart

Of those who will forget your existence.
