So, hair in Illustrator is a real pain in the ass, and wouldn't you know that I happen to have a lot of it. Sheesh! Self-portrait for a school project. Had to use one color and then only the HSB setting for changing it. No blends allowed, only flat color, and had to show the light vs. shadow of an image.So, I took a picture of myself, adjusted the levels in photoshop, as recommended by my teacher to really bring out the light and dark values, and proceeded to use the pen tool. I am really happy with how the eyes and mouth turned out. The rest I'm just not so sure of.
Comments and critiques would be really nice, especially since this is due tomorrow, and I want to be the best it can be. Working bitmap picture included for reference between them.

I think you've done really well with showing the light and dark of the image. I personally like the contrast of the really light shape to all the darker ones. My critque on that would be to make your shapes smoother in parts, they seem to be a bit pointy, instead of rounded ;] The eyes are good, but I'd perhaps make eyelashes more prominent, even if they arent so in the photo ;] the lips are nice

I actually have corrected the shapes to make them more rounded already, I just haven't uploaded the updated one. That's so much for the critique. I really appreciate all your help!!

I think you did a good job with the shadow blocking. The hair does look like it would take forever. lol
