Description The cryptornids are peculiar relatives of the corypsittacids and the ailurocephalids, and, as a rule, are haphazardly placed somewhere between the two main branchs of Order Zygodactylia. What makes these pathologically lethargic birds truly remarkable are their barbed, frog-like tongues with which they capture their prey with. Their victims are located with their huge, perpetually squinting eyes, which they open wide right before they strike.
Chameleornis fuscus is a typical, if not the typical cryptornid, with this particular specimen having raised its head to snare a recently alighted Aerocancerilla chloridans.

ItΒ΄s a very nice work and a very nice animal concept!
Maybe you could give us more information about your cryptornids. IΒ΄d like so much to read it.

Well, about behaviour, phylogenetics, number of species, what else you have creted to it.

We'd seriously have some problems if pigeons had that little trick.

But that's not a pigeon, nor does it exist on my property, so I'm safe. What?

I like how you added extra lighting/colour to the center of the leaves - draws the attention to the aerocancilla thing.
And also, because of the brighter orange colour of the bird's wings the last bit of the tail tends to really get drowned out into the tree bark. It looks only slightly lighter than the tree bark and I think it loses much attention by having it blend in with the tree.

That's the whole point of it being lost to attention...
It's a cryptic animal, after all.
