Gods, I loved the books when I was a kid. Reading about Alvin the Treacherous as a suave, oily creep with a moustache, not to mention Norbert the Nutjob. And having Gobber as a bare-chested screaming maniac! Still, the movie's one of the few adaptions that's better than the source material, like Jaws or The Shawshank Redemption.
