Because I am 1000000% in love with everything. Yes, I've been freaking out about this since yesterday afternoon, but I was far too busy to doodle out my feelings. Luckily, I had the time to day.
Unfortunately there's been quite a few complaints I've seen crop up. So, as a polite reminder to the haters/complainers:
1. We were warned they would be aged by about 5 years a LONG time ago so we had ample time to mentally prepare ourselves.
2. Astrid and Hiccup both look fabulous. Astrid isn't too 'girly' (which I defend here and here ) and… well I can't see anyone complaining about Hiccup.
3. The leaked posters are (from what I hear) early concepts - the animation style obviously wouldn't be official. Of course they will be more detailed.

I do love his somewhat awkward but still attractive appearance as well… they didn't lose who he WAS while still aging him. It's perfect

Quite frankly I don't mind that they'll be five years older than the first movie. I mean, obviously if they're older, that means that part of the focus of the movie could very potentially be focused on Hiccup's transition to chieftain and quite possibly furthering Hiccup's relationship with Astrid. I see no reason to complain...I can't wait to see HTTYD2! :3

EXACTLY! Haha, sorry for shouting, but yes. I'm focused on Hiccup getting to the chieftain position and all the little milestones he'll have to go through. I mean, yeah, physically growing up is a bonus, but it's everything else it implies that I'm excited about.

Yes! It's totally all true. After reading the 2 Tumblr posts I agree more. Like, quite frankly, I really just don't understand people's complaints. Seeing Hiccup growing up seems exciting to me, I wanna see it! It's like the final chapter to the ongoing story of his transition from village hiccup/runt to someone that everyone looks up to and respects. Why would you not want to see that?
And furthermore, Astrid's being well-groomed is PART OF her tough act. She has a lot of pride in herself, and she wants to make sure everyone around her does as well, so she's tough. So I don't really get why she CAN'T appeal to her vanity every once and a while. Like, everyone deserves to feel good about themselves, right? The two, in her case, go hand in hand, and have ever since her character first appeared.

Me too! I'm super excited to see them older. I mean, I have my own qualms about grown up personally, but as for Hiccup, I'm completely excited! I love change and transition and this stupid 'stagnancy' people value is something I have a really hard time understanding. Maybe it's because I'm a writer and a creator of characters, but growth is such an important and integral part of life as well as personality. Hiccup NEEDS to grow up, both physically and mentally, to have any sort of impact. I love it too much to ever condemn it. And double yes to Astrid's part. I mean, I wrote a couple character things already on tumblr explaining to people why they need to cool their over-sensitive jets.

Yeah. Exactly, I see where you're coming from. I've been writing for a long time now and I see it the same way. If they were to keep Hiccup the same way, it'd be boring and not worth it or what they wanted to see, and then they'd end up complaining about that, making them a thousand times more annoying. For the story to be remotely interesting, there needs to be change and growth, because without change, there is essentially no plot and no movie. I really don't get how someone wouldn't see that. Like, every plot of every single piece of video ever seen ever always boils down to something changing and someone dealing with that change that, essentially, isn't that good at dealing with change. That's what makes TV/Movies so good, and quite frankly, changes are thrown left and right in life.
Plus, hellloooo, older Hiccup is ten times more adorable. He's friggin hot! How would someone not want to see that? Come on!
