Description
WARNING: Time travel is highly dangerous and should only be used in special situations. This particular method is designed to avert tragedies without dramatically changing the present.
Pros:
Does not create a divergent timeline, opting to "overwrite" the previous timeline.
Ontologically sound. Due to the two timelines following the same causal pattern, there is little to no risk of "accidental erases".
Extremely low chance of creating paradoxes.
Ontological immunity allows affected to live normally without worry of being hunted by causality.
Cons:
Can't kill anyone using this method, nor can it be used to erase sins.
People not given an ontological immunity are still "scripted" to die; kinda like Final Destination.
People given an ontological immunity charm can still be die from non-causal variables.
Nobody will remember the changes, not even the person changing it. The only people that might remember are anyone who witnessed the event change.
Requires divine assistance and permission to use.

I just wish to use time manipulation to learn about all the things that the ancients either destroyed or destroyed the records for.

That's archival time traveling. You don't need a special method to do that. HOWEVER if you want to save someone you really care about without breaking the multiverse, this is the way to do it.

You wouldn't need this method for passive observation. If you just want to learn something to gain context, and don't interact with anything, you can do a standard time travel and come back with nothing changed.
Timelines only diverge when a critical "idea" has been altered.

Yep. Time travel is weird, but one thing is certain: nothing can change if nothing is changed. It you really want to go back in time to observe something, then the best thing to do is use some sort of "invisibility bubble" to hide yourself from notice.
Or you could be like this guy , and not care.
