Died: January 18, 1589; Roanoke Island (age 37)
Allegiance: Templars

Bio: Not much is known about Roger Bailie’s life before his involvement in the Roanoke Colony, but it's believed that he had deep Templar connections through his friend, Governor John White.  Ever since the Assassin Brotherhood practically wiped out the European Templars under the mentorship of Ezio Auditore da Firenze, the Order had been scrambling in the shadows trying to reclaim power.  They saw an opportunity in the New World, and many countries funded expositions across the ocean to get ahead of the other powers.  The Templars used this to their advantage, hoping to find Pieces of Eden in America, and John White had plans for an English colony on the island of Roanoke.  He received funding from Sir Walter Raleigh in 1584, but the first attempt at colonization was aborted due to ill-preparation.  The Templars were not about to give up, however, and so White set up a new voyage himself.  He and Bailie gathered up as many colonists as they could, including White’s daughter Eleanor and her husband Ananias Dare, and they boarded a ship to the New World.

Upon arriving in Roanoke, tensions were already high.  The local Natives weren't to thrilled about these foreign invaders setting up shop in their homelands, but the colonists often tried to avoid as much violence as possible.  However, things ultimately turned terrible in the colony.  A lack of supplies and arms brought famine and illness to the colonists, and it got so bad that John White was eventually forced to return to England in order to restock on supplies.  He left Bailie in charge of the colony while he was gone, expecting to be back within a few months.

White never returned, however, as the English war against the Spanish prevented him from leaving British soil for years.  Things at Roanoke turned violent and frightening, as the men in charge went mad from a hunger for both food and power.  Bailie’s Templars became the dictators of the colony, threatening to murder anyone who got in their way while they searched for the Piece of Eden that was somewhere on the island.  Their schemes did not go unimpeded, however.  In 1588, a Croatoan Assassin named Kahente arrived on the island on request of her mentor.  She had been told to find the Piece of Eden before they did and then get out while she could, but she decided to stay when she saw the oppression that the colonists were facing under the Templar regime.  She became the guardian of the people, and a royal pain in Bailie’s side.

Kahente eventually confronted Bailie in January 1589, when the two sides had both found the Precursor Temple.  Bailie’s men bested Kahente in the fight, and used her DNA to open the Temple door.  Leaving her to die with a bleeding hole in her gut, the Templars entered the Temple and found a Shroud of Eden within.  Bailie, unable to get to the Shroud through its casing, lashed out rage and accidentally reprogrammed the hardware to eradicate any and all English DNA on the island, to treat it like a virus.  The Shroud did just that, and Bailie, along with all of the other colonists, were disintegrated.  Kahente was healed, being Croatoan, and she rushed back to the island only to find that her friends that she swore to protect had been annihilated by Bailie’s greedy haste.  It took her years to overcome her guilt.
