Description

Name: Wanbli Arlie

Born: December 29, 1950; Pine Ridge Indian Reservation, South Dakota

Allegiance: Assassins

Bio: Wanbli was born on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation to Assassin parents: a half-Apache father named Bromden Arnolds and a Lakota mother named Macha Arlie.  While she hardly had a good life growing up, her parents kept her safe from the worse parts of reservation life. That is until a tragic incident occurred in late November 1863, when Templar government agents raided her home and beat her while they shot her mother dead and took her father away, never to be seen or heard from again.  She was left in a puddle of her own blood, forever scarred by the violence that would plague her for the rest of her life. She vowed revenge on the Templars that took away the only light in her life, and swore to liberate her people from the horrid conditions forced upon them on these reservations. She was taken in by the lead Assassin in charge of overseeing what would become the Red Power Movement, a Mi’kmaq activist named Anna Mae Aquash, who would become the closest thing to a new mother figure Wanbli had.

In 1968, a group called the American Indian Movement (AIM) was founded in Minneapolis, founded on Native American pride and a desire for equality after centuries of abuse.  Wanbli readily joined just as her mentor did, ready to take back the lands that had been stolen from her ancestors so many times over. One of Wanbli’s first big acts of rebellion was when she joined the Native protesters occupying Alcatraz Island in 1969, calling back to the Treaty of Fort Laramie as justification for their ownership of the island.  However, this protest did not last long, much to the fury of the hot-blooded Wanbli. Morale was already low on the little island, and after the death of a 13 year old girl, many protesters simply abandoned the project. By 1971, Wanbli was the only one left, and she was forced to leave with a shattered and shriveled heart.

A month later, Wanbli found herself sulking over the loss while she and other AIM members were occupying Mount Rushmore.  It was here that she met the man who would become the love of her life: an African American Assassin named Fulton Falcone.  They had rather different personalities and methods of fighting for freedom, however. Wanbli was a strict traditionalist, believing the only way to win back their freedom was with guns and blades.  Fulton on the other hand was a man of peace, being tutored by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. himself. He saw violence as a negative feedback loop, and believed that the only way to earn freedom and peace was through nonviolent means.  This was an issue they'd butt heads on many times in their lives, but despite that they still became good friends and eventually lovers as the years went on.

In late 1972, a protest movement known as the Trail of Broken Treaties culminated in the violent takeover of the Bureau of Indian Affairs building.  Wanbli assassinated a Templar agent during the takeover, opening the floodgates for further destruction and violence. Fulton later bit her ear off for this, but being the angsty girl she was, she shrugged him off.  This cycle would repeat again the next year when a riot broke out near Custer, South Dakota, over the unlawful murder of Wesley Bad Heart Bull. Fulton only managed to get through to his lover during the violent Wounded Knee Incident, during which many Native activists sought to avenge the sins of the 1890 Wounded Knee Massacre, which Wanbli’s ancestor Chaytan had fought in.  A US Marshall and Templar agent named Lloyd Grimm was sent to try and fight the protesters, but he ended up on the ground on the opposite end of Wanbli’s gun. Fulton however pleaded with Wanbli not to kill him, and Wanbli reluctantly gave in. Though she did shoot him through the leg to paralyze him and send him limping back as a warning. The Wounded Knee Incident came to its end in May 1973, and shortly after, Wanbli and Fulton shared a special night that would result in the birth of their daughter Kiki nine months later.

Things did not get better for Wanbli, her goals, or her relationship however.  Another round of arguing occurred between her and Fulton in 1975 after she assassinated Templar FBI agents, Ronald A. Williams and Jack R. Coler, when they attempted to abuse innocent Natives on the reservation.  But the final nail on the coffin came in 1976. Even though suspicions of FBI spies ended when it was discovered that corrupt AIM agent Douglas Durham was working for the Templars and kicked out of the organization, Wanbli still had suspicions, suspicions that would not be founded in solid logic due to how bad her depression and stress levels were.  Her paranoia led her to believe her own mentor, Anna Aquash, the woman that took her in and raised her to begin with, was a Templar spy. And so she kidnapped her and dragged her to the middle of nowhere, and assassinated her execution style. The body wasn't found for another two months. While most of the reservation was baffled and appalled and scrambling to uncover the culprit, Fulton knew right away who it was.  The following confrontation resulted in one of the worst fights he and Wanbli had ever had, and Wanbli became so blinded by her rage and angst that she instinctively pulled out her pistol to shoot the problem away.

She didn't realize what she had done until he was already dead.  She spent the next night crying and wailing, thinking up a lie to tell her daughter in the morning about why she would never see her father again.

Wanbli’s angst had transformed into pure depression after that.  She barely had the energy to keep up her Assassin or AIM activities anymore.  And as it happened, the Red Power Movement itself seemed to be growing tired and worn just as she was.  She participated in one final event in hopes of killing the lead Templar pulling the string on all these sorrows once and for all.  In 1979, a Native protest known as the Longest March arrived in Washington DC, where Wanbli broke into a governmental building to put an end to this.  But the lead Templar had expected her, and she was immediately surrounded by agents with suits and guns. He also revealed Wanbli they had her daughter, and would offer her two choices: either both her and her daughter get shot here on the spot, or she simply walks away from everything.  Assassins and Templars, the AIM movement, the protests, everything. She would be given the chance to walk away alive and start a normal family life, even if it meant giving up her life goals of liberating her people. Wanbli cried, struggling to keep her gun in the air as she looked at her terrified daughter and thought about her lost lover.  And eventually, she gave in. She dropped her guns forever, picked up her crying daughter, and left everything behind.

After her retirement, Wanbli settled down in a small, quiet neighborhood on the outskirts of Minneapolis, where she raised her daughter in peace, rarely leaving the house except for when she had to go to work.  Kiki lived with Wanbli through her adulthood in order to save money for both of them, especially when Kiki had her daughter Ava in 1996 and the father was gone by 2000. The three lived together peacefully in their own little home, spending most of their resources on getting Ava into college so that she wouldn't have to live with the same regrets as her mother and granddaughter.  While they saved up a fair amount of money, Ava still needed to seek out a job in order to earn the last bit of payments she needed for college. She got a job as a clerk in Raleigh, North Carolina, in 2015. And while she wasn't much for making a lot of phone calls, Wanbli and Kiki still got a little worried when all her contact seemed to drop off around October.
