Description DAY 278

Today's drawing takes a look at some more Mickey, Donald & Goofy cartoons, usually the ones that are considered the best and, by a shocking unintentional coincidence, were all released the same year. I didn't plan on that happening and only discovered their release year (exception with one short) while searching for reference images.
Clock Cleaners has the three tend to the city's clock tower, giving it a good scrub and polish as each of them having their own problems. Mickey has to deal with a stubborn stock, Donald gets into an argument with the main spring while ON the main spring and Goofy getting caught in a ringing issue at the main bell. Each predicament is entertaining especially with who they're happening to, all the mechanics and engineering shown as the clock works is good from a technical level, I really like how they accomplished the vibrating sound of the main spring (even if it DID cause a controversy thinking Donald was running his bill off) and I really love how everything's in perfect rhythm. Yeah, cartoons always ARE set in rhythm to the music, but this one's on a different level since it's all within a clock tower.
Moose Hunters has the trio go to the deep woods for moose hunting (most likely for sport), with Mickey doing the shootin while Goofy and Donald pose as the bait. The funny thing I've noticed about MD&G shorts is that 9 times out of 10, Mickey usually gets no lines or gets the least to do. This short kind of has the same thing, but actually gives a good enough reason for that. He gets stuck with a wild moose and can't blow his cover. Survival of the beastly! So, while Mickey's stuck, Goofy, Donald and their moose trap have most of the fun and fun it is. Their female moose costume gets a lot of screw-up antics (especially making the obviously fake decoy act sexual) and there's a big climax with the 2 bull moose fighting each other. I also like the music in this; both from the cornball banjo music used for attraction purposes, the triumphant brass symbolizes the bravery of hunting, there's a randomly placed La Cucaracha, even the sound effects used for the mooses' bellows.
Lonesome Ghosts is undoubtedly the best MD&G short. 4 bored ghosts in a haunted house got nobody to scare so they call the Ajax Ghost Extermination Company and have a frightening with the undead. There's a lot of reasons why this is often considered the best MD&G short. The ghosts are really likable villains since their reasons for haunting is identifiable to every being on earth. The cold winter atmosphere compliments the greatly designed house even more. Each of the antics MD&G get into are hilarious both with the pranks being played and their reactions. The way the ghosts get defeated is great irony in of itself. And of course, there's a lot of conspiracies about how this was one of the first stomping grounds of Ghostbusters and I believe it. I mean, aside from the obvious concept of people being able to hunt down supernatural beings, the ghosts in question are fat, green and blobby, there's a lot of costly destruction to the first mission, it ends with the exterminators in question getting covered in sticky white gooey food, the exterminators finally get a call after a huge shortage and most obviously, Goofy says "I ain't a-scared a no ghosts!" which is just one word off from the title song! I'm still waiting for someone to make a "Cleanin' Up the Town" music video. Combine all that together and you've got a must-watch Mickey cartoon.
