Overall
Vision
Originality
Technique
Impact
Personally I think that this is wonderful and am worried that i may not be able to give a proper critique or maybe a biased one - but here goes
The model and textures look very solid, nothing looks like it wasn't done properly or like any of the geometry is broken or anything like that so the technique, the skills, the technical aspects of this piece i find difficult to critique and provide suggestions to for fixing or improving. if there were anything to improve it would be in the design aspects of the super soldier
Vision - the theme and idea is very clear and concise to me, he's some sort of a soldier according to the title a super soldier. This gives me the impression of something like the chief in halo. but what makes the solider so super, is it their armor, equipment and weapons? and how seasoned is this soldier? they look all clean and crisp there doesn't seem to be any weathering or battle damage. but to be fair there is most likely a good reason for that - a presentation of the soldier - so i don't think its fair to criticize for things like weathering details
Originality - Well there's a saying - 'form follows function' and given that they're some sort of futuristic soldier that restrains the design to things like futuristic and military-ish equipment. you couldn't have something like a character dressed up as a school girl or anything else (unless it was something wacky or unrealistic or had some other explanation) but i had to look at it a few times and read the title "super soldier" before my brain made the connection to halo so i cant really criticize that. the kind of impression they game me was that they're like a henchman or foot solider or cannon fodder. like they were a common type of soldier like there are hundreds like them
Technique - er ... didn't i comment on that already? again demonstrates strong sets of skill, technical skills, and technique. if there were anything to criticize here it would be design. i look at parts like the back of the legs and even side of arms. there seem to be hydraulics laced through the suit to augment strength. but it makes me wonder just how bulky is this suit? where does the suit end and the man inside the suit begin?
Impact - ... i believe my initial response to this was "damn ...
ok that's it i quit
*runs away and cries"

Overall, technically speaking its pretty well done. it's clear who and what they are and that there's some sort of specific purpose for this piece hence the clean design and the ... (whats the term i'm searching for, posing?). its pretty clear who or what they are, some sort of futuristic soldier but didn't really make the connection that he's a 'super soldier' or related them to halo initially i guess things like that are difficult to depict unless maybe if your comparing them to soldiers in the same universe
I'd give it a 4.1, can i provide that kind or rating here? I don't critique often and I'm not sure how that works

Seams like a very fair Critique to me, and I agree with you on everything you said.Β Good timing also, I have just started modeling the next version, and you gave me a few ideas

I'm loving how meaty this suit is without looking immobilizing.Β
Fun fact: every pouch there holds a different flavor of Tic Tacs.

To me that's an issue. That lack of immobilizationΒ leaves the groin incredibly exposed to everything from knives to artillery shells, and while I do think that the undersuit πͺπ΄ stronger than any mortal blade can pierce, it helps to be prepared. Of course, you can't completely protect that region (aside from using chainmail) but a skirt of plates should do the job nicely (I'm not advocating for that since it already looks perfect and like I said, I suppose the undersuit is made to protect against heavy bullets).
Β Β Β The abdominal plating also glares out to me, though I'm not actually sure what's wrong. I'm thinking it's probably due to not enough plates being there, since you'd need at least four or five lames to move freely (for reference, clone trooper armour is immobilizing thanks to the single abdominal plate), and not only that but the plate looks to be angled such that it'd deflect shots into those... hydraulics? Hopefully they're reinforced.
Β Β Β Of course, no one but an LSD powered psycho AI is going to be able to land a perfect shot on any one of those 9 gaps I could see. So, I guess we'll just swim in our pool of multi-flavoured Tic Tacs while bodyguarded by these dudes.

Can I use this idea to model myself? (Wont be copied, but may take some amazing points of this character.)

What are all the features does the armor have. Because those things on its back look a bit like predator shoulder canons

i have a question, what exactly did you use Photoshop for? to align the different perspectives?
π: 0 β©: 1
Avitus12 In reply to Dire-Raven [2014-11-18 19:59:56 +0000 UTC]
The textures where made using Photoshop, I also sharpened it and messed with the colors a little, and yes align the different perspectives, the background pattern was also added using ps

I think you've done a great job! The your modeling is amazing and you have great design but this guy needs some asymmetry. I think the pouches on the front should vary in arrangement and the grenades should not be the same on both sides. I also think while realistically he wouldn't want any contrast (he wants to not stick out) for the sake of it being for entertainment I think the paint job and material separation needs more contrast. Since your sculpt is so busy the camo pattern is very busy too, I'd give him more solid color patches even if they're army green just to give the eyes a place to rest.

Yer there is a lot going on, I have thought about making more solid color in the past, but never did it, but I think you may be right, I'll experiment.
Cheers

ill admit when I first saw your super soldier in his rubber long john's I was wondering whether this was meant to be a soldier or Usain bolts lanky white cousin but the more you added the more I realised that while a little different to the norm of super soldier body types eg spartans (direct scale up) and the wh40k astartes (steroids steroids and an extra dose of steroids in the morning cornflakes) your actually taking the realism route and well I'm defiantly a convert to this different idea... Nice Β
