Lovely photo and I personally think it is better like this than if she was looking into the camera. The funny shoes makes of a pretty sharp contrast to the grey stone and ordinary looking maize. It's not really distracting, but the light is a bit sharp on her back. Well done

hm....yeah when I metered this shot I had two choices, expose her face more so we could see a little expression or get that harsh light off her back. I decided to go with the face because it seemed more important to the scene and hoping that I could get the back in post process but nothing doing, the harsh 43 C heavy sunlight days claim another highlight.

Indeed the face face is much more important than the back

I love that she's shying away, but the character on her shoe is staring right at you.

the batteries are hard to find, you kind of need to poke around to find them, here is the best site on the net about how to get these old yashicas going! [link]

thank you so much for doing what you do ---- documenting china so closely, giving images and stories, your impressions. it's incredible how viewing a string of your images like this, combined with the words, gives an uncanny sense of being there. a sheer, underrated talent in a swirl of more slap-your-face imagery. you slap the face as well but with a gentle appeal to awaken, to lead the stunned viewer by the hand, further into the world you unlock.
