The floor is icy-pole sticks glued to a base, sanded, stained and then varnished
the walls is part of a shipping box, which I covered in a 'wood grain' sticky book cover
the sylvanian families props I have bought online and at my local toy store - I think there are other brands too - calico critters is one I have heard of, but my stores dont stock them

Question: from the looks of it they are pose able but can they be posed to hold other things like-- other than the pencil Kirby is holding there.

Yep, they can hold plenty of things - I did use blue tack to secure the pencil here though... but he does have a hand piece that is designed to hold his sword, wand and tomato

I use a Canon 550D and for this shot I used a Tamron f/2 60mm lens.
The settings were; f/5, 1/6sec, ISO 800
