This is just to express how I feel about this scene and if someone protected Mirabel from her grandmother.

Every time I watch this scene from Encanto, it just pisses me off when Alma accuses Mirabel of hurting the family for having no gift, and even blames her for all the bad things that happened from Luisa losing her super strength when she is actually feeling overworked without being given a day off but fears she'd be considered useless; to Isabela being "out of control" after her proposal was ruined when in reality Isabela didn't want to marry Mariano in the first place, even though Dolores was the one who loved him more, but she was doing it anyway for the family and was forced to keep a perfect image as the oldest Madrigal child; and even blaming her for Bruno leaving the family but he actually left to protect Mirabel from Alma out of fear she would be hated and ostracized more than him because of his vision. Even though she does apologize to Mirabel for her actions and we see how much she suffered after her husband Pedro was killed to protect his family and their people and they were given their miracle, it was still no excuse for her to treat Mirabel like she hated her for not receiving a gift and forcing her to stay out of the way of family affairs.

This quote Mario says in the Super Mario Bros Movie is exactly how I would think of Alma initially before she changes for the better and reconciles with her family, including Mirabel and Bruno. But even compared to Miguel's grandmother from Coco, Alma is a saint since we see her backstory and understand her pain and even her reconciliation with her granddaughter.
