Yes I always thought thisΒ lolΒ wish it was in the book and told in detail, or wished the movie would explain it. It's a wonderful idea though for the thought of two roads.

Quadling Country, the southern division of Oz, has red as its national color. So the road might lead to there. That would make sense, since according to the first map of Oz, Quadling country is nearest to the Munchkin village.
Plus, Glinda hails from Quadling Country.

You know...that's possibly tone of the biggest mysteries of this film. I think, because it's red, it goes south where the quadlings are, because they were all about red.
