Pretty old gaff rigged boat in the foreground. Where was this taken? It looks a lot like a boat that a friend of mine owned out in California many, many moons ago.

Very cool spot, it seems.

I never had a chance to sail in England. I understand you've got the tides from hell there. That you leave on one high tide and can't come back until the next one! Like it or not...

A good friend sailed in the infamous Fastnet Force 10 race years ago. The one that tore all of the boats/crews up. He had a sizeable fear of the waters near Britain after that...

I remember chatting with a Brit couple in the Marquesa Islands years ago. Their little sailboat had two keels so it could settle onto the bottom when the tide went out. They were about 3/4 of the way through with their circumnavigation.

They showed me pix of their boat back in England, and I'm sure I had to pick my chin up. At high tide the water went about three-quarters of the way up the nearby seawall. When the tide was out, you could walk to the boat (in knee deep mud, apparently).

I was in a Marina that silted up after a hurricane, and the only time we could get out was high tide. Eventually it flushed itself out, but that was a nuisance.

quicksand can catch a few out too...living on an island like we do you get used to the tides
