I love, love, love Gabriel Reyes. I dont think hes as much of a jerk as some people made him out to be cause there was 20 years of him dealing with being the head of Blackwatch and cleaning up after Morrison. So, hereβs a happy Gabriel because theres not a lot of it.Related content

I also agree that he probably didn't start as an ass. But when you mix in jealousy, lack of recognition, years of super crappy assignments, and what's speculated to be general dislike from anyone who wasn't Morrison, and the heavily hinted possibility that he is constantly experiencing full-body phantom pain from his regenerative powers, its a wonder that he's only a nihilist and not a full on gibbering lunatic.

I think him and Jesse McCree got along very well at one point. But like with Jack, Jesse abandoned him, or what Gabriel perceived as abandonment.Β
And then there's Dr. Angela Ziegler aka Mercy. It's blantly obvious that he holds her directly, or at least partially responsible for what he is now. I think they are at the top of his hit list.
Reyes/Reaper views Tracer and Winston as annoyances in the way of his real goal: Tracking down and killing McCree and ESPECIALLY Mercy.

Oh gosh yeah like, there's so much stuff we dont get in either of their backstories. Morrison could have been a little arrogant or self righteous, for all we know, people could have simultaneously looked up to and hated Reyes. Blackwatch basically cleaned up after Overwatch and got rid of whatever Morrison missed. His in game dialogue heavily suggests that Jack either was unintentionally full of himself or Reyes deemed him to be.Β
As for Reaper's current condition, well... Sometimes we become what we fear most, right? What if Reyes 'became' death to try and hide the fact that he fears and longs for it the most?Β
But it honestly is surprising he's not absolutely crazy at this point and is just a jerk. It's either his own strength keeping him going or his own bitterness.
