Description
Not every hero is caught up combating the effects of Beholder's insane rain. While there are heroes whose willpower enables them to resist the other dimensional power, there are villains whose own warped nature allows them to take advantage of the disaster. Some heroes, like U.S.Avenger and Jade Dragon devote their efforts to hunting down these madmen before they can make the situation even worse.U.S.Avenger and Redcap and created by and copyright of

Here I was, away for a couple of days and not paying much attention to dA. And look what a treat I missed.
You did an amazing job with with Jade Dragon. Colours and details are exactly like I envisioned. And the changes You did really streamline the design. Make it feel more, hmm... for the lack of better word more like a "proper" hero costume.
You can be sure I'll be stealing this design as the definitive costume he'll be taking up.
Edit: And also I almost forgot. Thank You again for even having him up in the Acid Rain.

Honestly, I don't feel like I did a whole lot of modifying of the original description. I added full gauntlets/cavalry gloves instead of shorter gloves and I enlarged the crown, but that's about it. After a couple 'test sketches' that seemed to be the best way to go. His clothes are tight, but not tighter than anything Buster Crabbe might have worn in a Flash Gordon serial and his colors are pretty much exactly as you described them. Now I almost added jodhpurs to his look, but eventually decided to stick with the pants you described. The crown was the toughest part of the outfit. After having played around with it for awhile, I decided only one of three things could make the headgear work: eliminating the crown and just going the "Jewel in the Skull" route ala Dorian Hawkmoon or Adam Warlock, making the headgear a stylized helmet or simply enlarging the crown to emphasize it's presence a bit. In keeping with his pulp era design, the last option seemed like the best option.
Anyway, he was a neat challenge to take on and I'm glad I got to use him for this.

U.S.Avenger looks awesome and Jade Dragon seems Golden Age inspired

Yeah, U.S.Avenger's got a sweet look. Lurch-jr really came up with a classic. Jade Dragon is more Pulp era (Flash Gordon, Buck Rogers, Doc Savage) than Golden Age, but he does indeed hearken back to those early sci-fi adventure serials.

Thanks, I'm glad you're digging it! Each pic is taking just a bit longer than my last series due to the number of characters per page, but I'm having a pretty good time with it.

I can tell with each picture a difficult yet fun task but as I look at these I've been wondering. What do you use to color actually? For my it's a variation of color pencils but I think I'm seeing marked and maybe pastels in yours

I use markers, pastels and colored pencils to color. It all depends on the pic. For characters I almost always use markers, though I will sometimes do highlight work with pencil. For backgrounds if it's something complicated I'll use pencils, but if I'm just filling in the field so it isn't white, I usually use pastels. I'll change up the color mix to suggest different types of background (sky, ground, buildings, water, etc.), but pretty often I'm lazy and just use the color with no real detail or only one or two highlighted objects. Then I give it a good layer of fixative to resist smudging.

Gotcha!!!!! I knew it had to have some pastel, great job though you are mastering mixed media by the piece. Also glad to see more people with Oc heroes and powers around, might end up following them all xD

Yeah, there are a bunch of folks with OC's on DA. Honestly, there are so many creative people with OC's there's no way to really follow all of them, but I try to keep track of as many as I can.
As far as my work goes, sometime in the next couple months, after I've stockpiled enough, I'm going to do some work where I use a brush instead a pen for my finished inks and do some finished colors with watercolors and guache. I did some work in those mediums in years past, but lost it all and the materials when a house I was living in flooded. Brush work is a whole lot of fun, but more difficult than pens.

Brushwork requires more practice than pens, but it can be gorgeous when done correctly. Regardless of what you do, I'm a big fan of experimenting with various media. To me, art is as much about the process as the result.
