Description
Not all "super-criminals" are great. Some aren't even all that good, barely presenting a threat the regular authorities are challenged to deal with. Calvin Burns, alias Igniter is one of those villains. While his "Ignition Pack" is a fairly impressive invention, when stacked up against the threat posed by rampaging monsters like Titanothere, mystic creatures like the Evil Eye or even similarly themed villains like Fire Opal, he's light work for many heroes. Fortunately for Calvin, the very mediocrity that makes him less threatening than most villains also makes him a lower priority.

Igniter's shtick is his ability to cause nearly any material to burst into flames. This is a function of his own invention, the Ignition Pack. The pack function by focusing a tight beam of shortwave radiation at a target, exciting the molecules and ionizing the atmosphere around it causing it to burst into flames. The beams are so intense that normally flammable targets almost immediately ignite, liquid evaporates and organic tissue suffers radiation burns. Obviously, some materials, like concrete, are virtually immune to the pack and others take a significantly longer time to affect. Steel for instance, is highly resistant to the pack and non-ferrous metals tend to melt without any fiery combustion. Ferrous metals also melt, but they can experience sporadic combustion. Igniter's suit is designed to make Calvin immune to his own powers and thus it insulates him from most fire and radiation effects unless they ascend into the thousands of degrees. Calvin can also "fly" for short distances by pointing the igniter emitters downward and causing the air beneath them to ignite, thrusting him into the sky. Since this simply launches him in a direction and he lacks any real flight control, this is more of a desperate escape measure than a commonly employed ability.
