I wish Tolkien had given the dwarfs reasons like this to go for the Erebor - it would have made an even better story, if they all had wives and children, for whom they wanted to reclaim their old home

I think that is very much a result of the target audience the book was written for. The Hobbit was intended as a children's book, so it didn't have a huge amount of intricate emotional details in it so as to not overload the readers.
I do think Tolkien wrote well for a "children's book", he didn't talk down to the reader the way I feel the Narnia books do (they were written at a similar time, by a friend of Tolkien's at that), but still, there's miles of difference between The Hobbit and LotR for intricate emotional details.
So in the end, what you have in The Hobbit is basically a group of dwarves who seem more invested in claiming the gold in Erebor than necessarily claiming Erebor back (at least that's how it felt to me), and not a whole lot of thought given in the text about the subject of just how they feel about being homeless for so long.

I answer in Spanish because I'm a disaster in English: 100% agree with everything you said, I Personally, I always said that one should not compare the LOTR saga with The Hobbit, the trouble is that many people do not read books are those comparing the films more o_O

I am totally monolingual, so I don't even understand Spanish. Your English may not be perfect, but I understand what you intend with it.
The big thing I love about the movies is that Peter Jackson can make The Hobbit more in line with LotR. He can put in the emotional details that were not in the book, and details from the LotR appendices to give the dwarves more reason for going to Erebor than just to claim the gold.

Yes, the fact that Jackson put more emotional depth to the stories of the characters make the movie more "serious" than the books, especially the hobbit ^ ^
