Description
This is a concept of a space station located at the L5 Lagrange point of the Earth-Sun system i did as part of my bachelor thesis. It is primarily a research facility and also serves as gateway to the outer planets. I also made a short animation, which can be seen here: youtu.be/ib3NnCdslp0Related content

Two questions: 1) What are the white wavy curtain like objects "hanging" down on both left and right sides? I'm guessing radiators. 2) I presume the huge engines on the stern side (from video) are not "rule of cool," but intended to serve some purpose other than station keeping (L5 and all). Would you explain them?

Radiators and 2) looks more like docking berths than engines.

Regarding #2:They're definitely engines because you can see them thrusting 2x in the video (0:34-0:37). However, based on the final dialogue in the video, it may have been less station-keeping and more station-attainment (i.e., the L5 station).

I really like your design. So many of the popular designs assume we will try to transplant terrestrial environment. Your design appears to reflect a practical view of the limits and potential of life in space.

Thank's a lot Yeah, my goal with this was to create something fictional, yet somewhat believable...kind of to show the non-space enthusiast what could very well be possible in the near future.

Hey man, sorry for the super late reply. I did this for my bachelors degree in Industrial Design back in 2012. It was kind of an unusual topic and I got lucky that it has been approved, because I already knew that I wanted to get into concept art at that point. Also astronomy/astrophotography is a hobby of mine and thats why I decided to do this

This is awesome. More windows though...lol
I would also consider a space dock at one end.

Thanks! Yeah, I guess some kind of glass dome with a nice 360° panorama view would be a nice addition Actually, there is a dock at the rear end if you look at the animation here: youtu.be/ib3NnCdslp0

Thank you very much! Being a hobby astronomer and space enthusiast, I tried to convey a certain degree of "realism".
