Description
So, here we go...I'm a creature of ritual and tradition, and my most important ritual is the beggining of the yearly portfolio... I've almost posted all of my stock of the past year, and I thought it would be a good idea stretch the artistic muscles from now on... I'm supossed to have a good collection to show for july the 19th, and I might as well start now...
So, this is the first one: all pen and dry brush work. Maybe I won't use this approach in the following pieces, depends on how it works once it's colored. I spent a couple of hours with a dinosaur book to get the functional anatomy right...
And yes, the basilisk is a rooster with snake tail, but what the heck...

Your inking technique is so amazing. I absolutely floored by the detail you get with spotted blacks.

Many thanks, bro! Actually, it's easier than it seems, you only need an old brush and some practice...

In my opinion its left paw's a little off. I think it's either the perspective that's wrong or the general construction that's too Β«roundΒ», meaning that it looks a bit fat and not edgy enough considering the general visual style
But other than that it's boner material

Well... I'm glad you acknowledge that that's not a traditional basilisk. Because I was about to smite you for it.
You call that "functional" anatomy? You and your stacks of elbow-ridden monsters! Useless feathers, gnarled hands, snake tails, and underbite!
The face is my favorite part, though. The jaw feathers and underbite combine for a gulper eel/pelican effect, I think. And the eye's amazing, and even more so because it's drybrush.

I know, just kidding, you should be used to it by now, we've known each other (sort of) for months... and I always dig your comments.
