Description
Part of a group mod project at school.This is Detective Romulus "Roman" Kessler, a very laid-back fellow who knows more than he lets on, and on rare occasion drops the act and makes sure you know it too. Secrets aren't safe around this guy.
Inspired by the following:
- Blacksad from the french comic
- Raiden from Metal Gear Solid 4
- Dingo from Zone of the Enders 2
- Batou from Ghost in the Shell
- a frilled lizard
- Mass Effect 2
Design-wise I tried working the classic trenchcoat + fedora motif within the silhouette, streamlining familiar shapes into a uniform.
My favourite design is the one on the far left, mostly because it felt the most raw and conveyed the stuffy superiority of an authoritative figure.
The other batch of designs veered away from the "detective" mold and made him look too militaristic instead.
I'll post the finalized design later on, the alien detective ultimately came off as a sleek FBI-ish now that I gave him a jacket.
Funny where these character concept explorations take you.

I like the one on the right the most, he looks vaguely like he's wearing a pinstriped suit and slicked back hair. It reminds me of a noir detective, makes him look more refined.
And as we all know, the future is blue and red, not brown.
