Description This is the finalized screenshot from my grad film short entitled "Last Stop". A little dedication to everyone who has or has once ridden on public transit . Since I didn't make it into Ottawa's animation film festival, I thought I'd console myself by sharing it with everyone I know . This took a total of 6-8 months to complete from the initial concept to post production.

Feature track "Next Move ft. Voice" by MOONSTARR of Public Transit Recordings - [link]

You can find more of Moonstarr's audio clips on his MySpace here - [link]

If you've never heard of the Broken Beat music genre, this man will make you a believer!

Finding music for Last Stop was freaking murder, tried improv jazz, reggae, surf guitar, scat.... Nothing worked. Seriously, there must've been some kinda funky karma at work.. I mean, a film about public transit featuring music from a label like PUBLIC TRANSIT RECORDINGS? What're the chances? I'm still counting my lucky stars.

=======================================
["TOS violation?" - old news really....]

When I tried submitting my film to AtomFILMS, I was soon given an email that vaguely stated it was rejected because I violated section 4 of their terms of service [link] . It said that my film should not be "indecent, libelous, defamatory, obscene, threatening, invasive of privacy or publicity rights, abusive, illegal, harassing, contain expressions of hatred, bigotry, racism or pornography, or are otherwise objectionable, or that would constitute or encourage a criminal offense, violate the rights of any party or violate any law."

Maybe there was some misunderstanding or perhaps the general subject of public transit was deemed too sensitive for viewers.

I have no idea. But I posted all that here because I thought it would be an interesting discussion topic while mulling over the scenes in the film.

This is soo true especially with my bus it's like I have to fight for a seat and when I get the seat somethings a matter with it or I'll be getting off. This was perfect and the girl was awesome (i'm just like her pratically) she conveyed the perfect reaction that I see all the time with other public transit riders!!!

Very well done. After watching it several times I can't figure out what was offensive that they rejected it lol.

When I asked about it - they told me earlier I could ask for a critique about a specific offensive part in their rejection letter - they replied that they couldn't give a proper response because of the sheer volume of entries they recieved.

... Well, they did say I could ask.

That was so inspiring and beautiful. I'm trying to animate something that's not even a 1/10 of this, but seeing this gave me more motivation to work on it. This is grand

Ah, public transport. I hate buses Super cute!

Why didn't you submit the entire thing to the film section?

axl99 In reply to toasty-fresh [2008-03-18 21:58:50 +0000 UTC]

[Why not ask Vashperado the same thing eh LOL.]

My problem is that I've used copyrighted music, but which of course I had written permission from the musician to use.. However it's all in email form, not in a formal contract. It's possible for me to just send in a copy of the email, but I'd feel like it's bad form to give out someone's email address.

Meh, I'll figure something out.

holy shit but this is amazing. Realy love the color and moods and the way the bus just...kinda tips and falls out over everywhere XD AND YES ITS SO TRUE DAMMIT. You only get a seat when it stops at the frigging interchange WSEYRHJSTDJSTZERNTYMD.

You win the internets for this. The animation's fantastic Love the cute little girl and her OTL at the end of it all XD

Thats great
I really like the acting from the girl
nice colour scheme too
Fantastic Using the stills was a really effective way to illustrate that chaos without being tough on the vision as well

would be awesome in the film category no?

I really like this animation, it was well done and the humor was done, in my opinion, rather gracefully. I can only think that the "Ride the Rocket" bus was what killed you... and possibly the little girl getting smacked in the face with a butt.

When AtomFilms gave me the rejection email, they mentioned I could ask for a thorough critique in certain problem areas of the film. When I emailed them for a reason why my film was disapproved, they replied that they couldn't answer all their complaints due to the sheer volume of entries they receive.

Well, they did say I could ask .

Just take a look at some of the films up there, like this one: [link]

I mean, how did THAT not get the rejection letter?

The way I got burnt, I was clearly dealing with an extremist conservative douchebag who tried to read too much into the film. I had absolutely no idea AtomFilms was recently bought by MTV. Go figure.

Ouch, what a bummer. Jeez.

I agree completly and confounded just the same, it's amazing what get's picked and doesn't. I'd say they passed right by yours and picked up a feces encrusted cookie enstead of the glittering diamond. :/

aaaaaah - so wonderful! Just awesomely done in every way. This reminds me so much of highschool.... the bus crammed with hot bodies everywhere. The second a seat opened we'd all jump for it like starving dogs to a slab of meat. I'd usually get trampled. Ah, the memories..

The animation is suberbly smooth and has style. It would be so wonderful if you uploaded the animation to DA.

I'm glad you enjoyed the film!

There's already the Youtube and Vimeo links, I figured it'd be redundant if I uploaded it here as well hehehe.

EpicMyst In reply to axl99 [2008-01-29 19:46:24 +0000 UTC]

aaaaa - it would be so good if you did, though!

However, come to think of it, DA would probably be against the music used -- copyrighted and whatnot. Anyway, wonderful film again! *cheer*

axl99 In reply to EpicMyst [2008-01-29 21:49:22 +0000 UTC]

No no, I had permission from the musician himself, awesome guy that Moonstarr.

It's just that I'm not quite sure if telephone conversations and emails would suffice. Technically speaking they should so long as I have a record, but I'd assume DA was expecting something like a formal contract.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

EpicMyst In reply to axl99 [2008-01-31 00:57:36 +0000 UTC]

o.o *pause; then gasp*

You're right. If they were contacted by Moonstarr himself that must suffice? I don't know. D_D I wish I knew more about the legal processes. Sorry!

i'm not allowed on youtube and stuff right now cause it killed my laptop lol. XD or something like that. I'm sorry you were rejected u_u but i'm sure if you persevere you'll make it one day ^^

^^ It's alright, the whole thing doesn't bother me as much right now. What matters is whether or not the viewers enjoyed it.

on the policy violation thing... i think that's really bizarre. i didn't see a single thing in that video that could be deemed offensive. how strange...
