Some of Axuverse-Earth's least-explored swamplands are also uncoincidentally the most treacherous, inhabited only by monsters, demons, and other beasts uniquely adapted to survive in such sprawling mire. As the multitudinous demihuman and humanoid races of Earth have grown more cooperative in their cohabitation of the planet, some have begun to explore these deadly swamps in earnest, producing new ecological discoveries with every repeated expedition. Most such discoveries have been made at the peril of these expedition teams, and have not been particularly encouraging for those who had hoped to capitalize on the swamps' resources; However, one recent find has bucked the trend of unruly and dangerous wildlife, instead taking the unexpected form of a sentient, non-hostile being- and a humanoid at that!
The being in question was found approximately seventy-eight miles deep into the Great Coastal Swamp of Northeastern America, in a ramshackle hut built from sticks, mud, and conspicuously large bones. She claims to possess no name (or to have forgotten it long ago), but the expedition that found her has taken to calling her 'Lump' (after a vote in which the name narrowly won out over the debatably even less flattering 'Yodette') due to her sluggish, unanimated behaviour and somewhat infuriating tendency to sleep for roughly 23 hours a day, give or take an hour.
Personality-wise, Lump has been described as soft-spoken, curious, and, at first glance, simple-minded. Upon observing her more carefully though, most who have spent some time with her have noted a heavy sense of melancholy about her. Some members of the expedition agree that there is an unspoken sadness and wisdom in the lines on her face, not so visible from a distance, but suggesting that she has lived an unfathomably long and difficult life- one which she perhaps has learned to forget for the sake of her own continued survival.
Lump spends her few waking hours eating just about anything edible she can find, from plants and fungi, to insects, to snakes and lizards, to monsters twice or three times her size. Though this latter category seems ridiculous to say the least, members of the expedition who have observed Lump's feeding habits insist -without exaggeration- that she has singlehandedly incapacitated crocodiles, monster pythons, and lesser demons alike before swallowing each and every one of them whole. Entertaining the notion that this absurd feat of gluttony might be true does at least explain Lump's otherwise unexplainable presence so deep in such an inhospitable swamp, but it also raises a dizzying number of questions in doing so. Where did Lump come from? Why does she live where she does? What IS she, and of course, in what world could she possibly win so decisively in a head-to-head matchup against a rogues gallery of the deadliest wildlife on Earth??
Fortunately, Lump has been as cooperative as one could expect a supernaturally-gifted 'swamp witch' to be, even agreeing to relocate to the city of Dystopolis to participate in further research on her as-of-yet unnamed species (the aforementioned term 'swamp witch' has caught on but has not been officially condoned by anyone, Lump included.) But through her cooperation, Lump has raised perhaps the most unnerving question of all: how could she possibly have learned to speak, let alone communicate with a team of researchers from a civilization that, prior to her discovery, had never set foot in her corner of the Great Coastal Swamp? Vexingly, Lump has yet to come up with an answer to this or any other such looming questions, instead claiming simply that she has lived in the swamp for a very long time, and that she believes she was meant to watch over it in some way. She has admitted to possessing some sort of telepathic ability which she claims allows her to pacify and control the natural world around her, but there is no scientific precedent for such an ability, and further research into it is both ongoing and classified. Until such research is released to the public, Lump's true nature will remain a mystery, and her existence an enigma in a universe of enigmas.

Hello! Greetings from the great Laptop Graveyard in the Sky! I come bearing a character design that I've had in mind for a couple of years now, and played around with a bit in Sai prior to my laptop's probably-very-timely demise earlier this year, but never finished. A few months of occasional additions/tweaks later and I've decided it's time to post the result! Since my ability to produce clean linework without a tablet pen is nonexistent, I ended up drawing on my previous experience cleaning up the pic of Cecil from last year, aiming for a similarly messy and disheveled vibe, which by strange coincidence ended up suiting Lump about as well as it did Cecil! Said pic and the (highly professional) process behind it are included below:
