Description
Here, we have an M3 Halftrack at the PA Military Museum. Very much a workhorse of the US Army and also the British in WW2.After the war, many were sold as surplus, I know of one that was used as a farm vehicle post war in the Warrendale, PA area. I saw it derelict at that farm into the early-mid-80's and Dad told me he'd seen it running frequently as a young man.
Many were also sold to Israel as "scrap" and used for several decades after WW2 for various purposes until enough M113s were available.
Enjoy!

Always found this kind of vehicle pretty cool-looking... hey, they got wheels *and* tracks!

IIRC, this is a French development- maybe Citroen that the US and Germans in particular picked up on.

Aaah, the old M3, if I had a quid for every time I've seen one in a WWII wargame, I'd be a rich man. Good, solid vehicles, they did their job well.

I wonder if any countries even use halftracks anymore.

Possible some developing countries may have some in ancillary roles, but I'm frankly unsure.

Gotta love surplus. I find it fascinating to see the creativity inexpensive hardware makes people show. Sadly, almost everything today is purpose-built. Really takes the ingenuity out of our generations.
