thank you. it's my son. I haven't done a lot of pastel portraits. I look at the best ones and try to learn. you have to have different colors and some pencil pastels for fine details. and first of all do a sketch with a light brown one, you have an option to move it. pastels are not like charcoal- here you do layers, rather than erasing. if you have any questions I'll be happy to answer!

Whenever I do a pastel portrait, it usually ends up looking "dirty".
I hate textured paper, and I know I should use that for colour.

I am working on a coloured portrait at the moment, and I think I'm doing quite good!!

I know- that textured paper is a pain. I'm looking for an alternative. try to start with light and then add darker and darker and don't blend them all together. I think that's why it gets dirty. but I do smudge them to make skin smooth. I watched a video on you tube and the artist puts on special band aids on his fingertips to protect them when smoothing the colors. I love all your work, your are so talented! I saw your group before. it's so cool! but I don't know if I have time to participate. Do you have to draw all the ref, or just some of them?

The coloured drawing that I am working on just now is on Bristol Board, it takes a little longer, but I prefer it, it's much nicer, IMO.
