Description
There's a phenomenon in quantum mechanics known as quantum superposition.

You may have heard that light has properties and behaviors that match those of both waves and particles. If you fire a laser beam at a screen, filtered through a barrier with two slits cut in it, the light on the screen forms a neat-looking interference pattern with distinct light and dark regions. The evidence from this famous double-slit experiment suggests that the photons that make up the laser beam appear to occupy all possible positions they could occupy, simultaneously. Well, at least until you try to observe a photon in isolation rather than the interference pattern as a whole. To those who don't accept the Many-Worlds interpretation of quantum mechanics, the act of observing a quantum particle's position is known as "collapsing the wave function," and it forces the observed particle to pick a phase state to occupy. In other words, the very act of opening Schrödinger's box determines the fate of his cat.

And then there's Kassie, who says, "Screw that. I'll take up as many spaces as I want! Science can't tell me what to do!" And to be fair, although the number of "phase states" she can occupy is still capped at three, she's got a point. They can even touch each other, much to the delight of herself and would-be voyeurs.
