Description
I am a superhero. This is a fact I have always known but only realized recently. All my life I have been different and have seen the world in a different way. Many thought I was just crazy and for years so did I. Then I met others who shared my view of the world, at least partially. These others are also possibly heroes though I do not know for sure; I do however no I am one.Nothing in life holds any interest for me and I lack motivation in all things. I spend my life waiting for day to turn to night so that I can get my brief respite from the tedium of life, sleep. When I sleep I am dead. No effort involved, no work needed. And upon viewing this attitude you may ask yourself: “If this person hates all things that require effort then how can he do the most demanding job of all, put his needs above others and help people”. The answer is simple. Being a hero is the one, and only thing I am meant to be. Call it destiny, fate, karma or a chemical imbalance but above all else call it fact.
The great Stan Lee has a term he uses when addressing an audience and anyone who knows anything about comics has heard him use it. It is the term “True Believer”. Many people all over the world believe they know what he means by this term. They all think it refers to someone smart enough to realize that somewhere in the infinite universe all superheroes exist for real. The term does not refer to these people. It is common knowledge that superheroes exist for real somewhere. An infinite universe breeds infinite possibilities. A true believer is someone who fully understands and asks the question: “Why don’t we have superheroes here in our reality?”
The most popular superhero of all time is also the most likely one to appear in our reality. The heroes name is Batman. There are only two things separating anyone from becoming Batman, and the first thing is the money. Bruce Wayne had enough money to privately train himself in every martial art known to man, create amazing technology to aid in his crime fighting and somehow managed to get an unlimited supply of fuel for the Batmobile. He was also very, very clever. And sneaky.
Who else do we know who is very clever, very sneaky and most importantly has large amounts of cash? Bill Gates. So what is stopping him from suiting up in black spandex to patrol the night streets of Seattle? The second thing required to becoming a superhero.
The second thing is that undefinable quality that occurs in all superheroes and very rarely in some of us. It is the thing that makes a person want to be a hero, not for the powers, the fame or the glory. It is the quality that I know is in me and it is why I know I am a Superhero…………
Azex stands alone under The Tree. Cordron and Avatar walk up to him and find him in his usual state of being: Catatonic and drooling on himself.
“Think he’s seen that girl again?” asks Cordron slightly amused.
“Could be” replies Avatar.
They stare.
He drools.
They stare some more.
He drools some more.
“Fuck this” Cordron remarks and starts to walk off.
Then Azex starts to quietly sing a song, a song familiar to all of The 3.
“He’s not singing The Touch is he?”
“He is” replies Avatar.
“He’s fucking crazy”
With that final remark from Cordron he and Avatar turn and walk away from Azex, leaving him, as always alone with his thoughts.

LOL! Love that, and the twist at the end!?! You said that this is part of a series; sounds awesome. You never really get around to explaining exactly why this character thinks he's a superhero, but I know that the person you describe here:"Nothing in life holds any interest for me and I lack motivation in all things. I spend my life waiting for day to turn to night so that I can get my brief respite from the tedium of life, sleep." , that person's totally me. Kinda sad actually. The only things I want to do are those that give me pleasure-- reading, writing, other such things that aren't quite speakable on dA... haha just kidding. Awesome piece, and I'd like to read some of your other writing as well. Why don't you post it up?
