We stood there as
Mere silhouettes in the darkness
Where the only way
To catch us was by touch

The stars were too distant
For our hands to clench
Like the glimmers of our hope shining
But not quite reaching us

Clouds of heat make us realize
That we are alive regardless
Until our hearts stop beating
By the hands of one another

We stay not an inch apart
Not relaxing or we’d be swept
Away into that lapse of unconsciousness
When no one knows when we’ll be back
