So in semi-realism you use both values and lines to complete a project. The values we will be using are black, white and gray. These are values without color(Which will help when we are shading and blending). So to do this form you must also know how to shade. Hatching and Cross Hatching. Click link for example ([link]) These are both examples on how to shade. I prefer hatching, honestly. But use whatever style you are most used to. Now that we covered styles of shading lets talk about how to create values with shading. If you want a light, almost white area you space your lines farther apart and make them less dense. For darker value bring your lines closer and layer them(having different pencils that are soft and hard also help with value). See link for example ([link]) Take out your pad guys and practice for a moment using your B pencil going from light to dark. One you have completed that bar, use your 4B going light to dark then follow below using your 4H. Notice how using the different grade of pencils also causes different vaules in each bar.

Okay guys! Assignment time.... underneath your three bars i want you to draw a circle. You may use any pencil you like but just draw me a circle. Imagine a lamp is shining on your circle at a 45 degree angle (top right corner of the page). I would like for you guys to show me where you think the shade will be. Shade the circle and the shadow it MAY or MAY NOT cast.

This is a PASS or FAIL assignment. Either you do it and recieve credit or you don't do it and recieve ZERO credit. This assignment helps me see what we will need to work on next or what we can skip all together as well as see what you guys have learned from this lesson. DUE DATE OCTOBER 3RD. I will NOT accept late work on this project. That being said, have an awesome rest of the week you guys.
