Description
2008 mixed media on cartulina.Running here, running there,
This helter skelter is everywhere
Busy shapes, on board to skate
With no time for lacking
Reason to their rhyme.
Someday soon these shapes will stop
And death on this landscaape will arrive.
So much lost, so little time,
Just a memory to survive.

I love how the dark and light play together. It comes across in the shapes too. Excellent work.

I read a poem once i think and i cannot recall but for some reason it popped up in my head because of this painting - don't ask me why Wayne..Running here, Running there, This Helter Skelter is everywhere. Busy Shapes, on board to skate, with no time for lacking reason to their rhyme. Someday soon, these shapes will stop and death on this landscape will arrive, So much lost, so little time, just a memory, to survive.
I really cannot tell you why,.maybe it makes no sense, the poem but i think it was that Helter Skelter?? or what looks like a Helter Skelter

Great poem. May I post it in the description of the painting?
Once again James you are like an archaeologist digging up treasures buried in my paintings. The original title was "Skater's Wet Dream". My idea was a skate park with lots of ramps and bowls and half pipes, and only one skater living his dream without any competition. The skater ascends the tower, skates down the spiral, building up speed and then swooping and looping all over the abstract park.
Well done you! Remember Helter Skelter was an amusement park ride before it became known for Charles Manson's wicked scheme.

Well of course you can Post it Wayne, post what you like, the Poems are Exhumed from your Paintings so go right ahead. i just looked over the poem again and there was one little grammar mistake but it's all there.
I only replicate or convey what i see in an Abstract or even, Fractal art, if it's done correctly and your work always catches my thought patterns perfectly. The sign of a great artist and you are of course.
Manson only Brings up The White Album for me\the Tate Murders and then the Beatles Helter Skelter track, Which Manson was obsessed with along with other tracks and we all know the outcome of that part of a tragic Event in history. Ended the Flower power movement.

OK, I put the poem in the description with credit to you.
I was 16 years old and living in So Cal during the Manson Murders. It was wall-to-wall on the news, much like the OJSimpson debacle. I read the book Helter Skelter by Vincent Bugliosi and watched the TV movie. I was obsessed with the White Album after that, just to understand WTF the little dude heard on the album to make him think it was his duty to start a race war by killing some white people and have blacks get the blame.
Bugliosi was a genius, because there was no physical evidence linking Manson to the murders. Bugliosi proved that Charles Manson wanted a race war, because he believed blacks were too stupid to govern, and they would eventually come to Charlie to be their leader. All fueled by LSD, and as you say, it was the end of the flower power generation.

You're very welcome Wayne, i'm honoured that you credited me but you really didn't have too - thank you all the same.
Well, you were in that space and time - to be part of that moment in time and watching the news feeds, and reading all about the insanity of Manson and his LSD fuelled followers. i just remember watching a documentary a couple years back and being quite shocked at Manson's crazy thought process. Makes you think though doesn't it Wayne. i often think about the Lennon Murder Too, with Chapman and his abusive up bringing, his conversion to Christianity, Lennon's out spoken Controversial remarks about, ''the Beatles being more popular than God or Jesus, And then when Lennon came out with the song, God and Imagine, that Gave Chapman the green light to shoot Him...i wonder if Chapman was on any drug? if i recall, i think he said God told him to kill..i maybe wrong though

The bizarre part of growing up then was watching the ordeal unforld, from the horror of the Tate murders, then the Labianca murders the following night, to the subsequent mass hysteria in the population thinking these killers would strike again. People bought guns and more locks. I remember our house didn't have a back yard fence and we never locked the doors, but after the murders, we did. Then with the capture of Manson and the 3 female killers and the circus that was the trial the case became even more surreal. Manson shaved his head, so did his female follwers. Manson carved an X into his forehead, that he later turned in to a swastika. He held up a newspaper with the headline "Manson Guilty Nixon Declares".
The only Beatle I really liked was George Harrison. I liked Paul McCartney when he was with Wings. Didn't care for the hijinks of Lennon or his music. Ringo...meh.
BTW, I wonder if you've heard the conspiracy theory about the Fab Four...
Supposedly McCartney died in a car crash in 1966. The British government was so concerned about a rash of teen girls committing suicide, so they hid the news from the public and launched a search for a left-handed bassist with the same physical appearance as McCartney. The Beatles disappeared from the public scene (supposedly studying mysticism in India), and when they reappeared their hairstyles had changed and they all had beards, supposedly to distract from the new Fake Paul ("Faul" conspiracy nuts call him). Back then, with no internet, it was an easy task, as most people had only seen the Beatles in movies and tv.
There are entire webpages devoted to this conspiracy theory. As Hillary Clinton once said: "At this point, what difference does it make?"

It must've been a surreal point in time Wayne.
Well, i think everyone had there favourite Beatle but for me, if it wasn't for studying John Lennon's Songwriting, Poems, Interviews, i'd never been that good at articulating words into a poetic format. Wings were great but then Paul was the most accomplished, Harrison, made some very fine music and Ringo made 1 song that i liked and that was this track, www.youtube.com/watch?v=bvEexT… and that is only because Harrison Produced this Song but Ringo had some weak Vocals.
Yes, I've read all those conspiracy stories, surrounding the death of Paul, the little death references on some of the album covers like on Sgt Pepper..all a publicity stunt i bet. i know one thing, the Beatles changed Rock n Roll Forever. .. were they the best band musically? well they've personally in the past stated that they weren't that great a musicians, George Martin the Beatles producer, Stated once, their music was uninteresting in the beginning and he only became interested in The Beatles not because of the music but because of the Characters and mainly John....but were they good song writers? could they write a decent song, a long lasting song? i think Lennon and McCartney had the perfect song writing magic formula that no band has ever replicated...i'm not a fan of any band, i love great songs, i won't dribble over songwriters, i admire their ability, I've never bought music in my life but the Beatles? after Revolver came out and from then on? every album is Gold...the only band i truly admire...i just find fans, fanatics are to obsessed and their expectation of the, ''songwriters, artists'' that they dribble over, gets let down in real life because most songwriters, haven't got much to say, are boring, manic depressives, sometimes rebellious, out spoken, hate their own existence and anyone who they come in contact with...then what happens is when the fanatics\fans hear something they don't want to hear from their favourite songwriter they end up shooting the songwriter or artist they just got an autograph from. if it was me? if i could sit down with a good a songwriter, i wouldn't be asking for autographs or asking about how they wrote their classic songs, i'd want to sit down and start making music and writing songs with them..
Hillary...good lord, when you look at her, you're literally looking into Satan's eyes...sorry if you're a Hillary follower but, there's something sinister about her and that crook of an EX president Bill.

World class rambling Jimmy.
May I take over from here?
I don't like the Beatles because they were overplayed in the 60s. Who was their competition? Herman's Hermits? The Monkees? I must have heard "Strawberry Fields Forever" and "Penny Lane" a thousand times, because the radio stations played those damned songs every 15 minutes. And me, a helpless teenager building model airplanes in his bedroom, without an alternative, captive to listening to the Beatles on am radio because there was no You Tube. Worst years of my life.
It all changed for me in 1971 when I heard The Who's "Live at Leeds" album for the first time. My friend had it on reel to reel. I realized there was more to rock than the Beatles, or even the Stones, who I always admired more than the Beatles.
Tommy, Who's Next, Quadrophrenia. The Who was the band that cured me of Phony Beatlemania.
I love punk, new wave, alternative, whatever, precisely because it's not the Beatles. I wouldn't even want to spend a minute in an elevator with one of the Fab Four. Sorry, the Fab Two.

Thank's for taking over and giving me your honest perspective on The Beatles and wayne i totally get what you're saying. A saturation of one band must have been a nightmare and yes, what were the Beatles really up against? not a lot competition back then. i think the Beatles were just Riding on the backs of the likes of Elvis and just took this whole fan, fanatic saturation to another level, screaming idiots are not my thing and having a song being played over and over again would drive me insane no matter how good the Band was at songwriting or playing songs.
If i can mention, The Who in my opinion Had some of the finest musicians - Keith Moon for instance? This guy was insane but when he played those drums, it was like chaotically magical ! John Entwistle with his unique way of Playing the Bass with his, ''typewriter Technique'' amazing bass player, Pete Townsend, what can i say, His Guitar Work\killer Riffs\licks\lead and his technical Capacity for creating new sounds was out of this world and Then Roger, listen to, ''The Bargain'' and his Vocals, www.youtube.com/watch?v=cyv_65… it sums up the Greatness of Rogers vocals.
quadrophenia ! one of my Admired Albums and Film if you've watched it.
I Admire The Sex Pistols, The Clash, The Police, XTC, The Damned and many others and the thing is Half of these Punk Bands, new wave..etc etc, even though at the time denied and hated the 60's music, disco, Progressive Rock, Glam Rock, Most of the Bands were influenced in some way by the likes of the Beatles and some of these Bands in the end even started to accept this. XTC for instance, if you Listen to Dukes of the Stratosphere and the album 25 o'clock they pay homage to all the bands that they hated when they were a Punk Band...if you don't know XTC or their alternate Band Dukes, you should check them out but i gather you should know who i'm talking about.

We rubes in California were denied access to XTC, except for "Senses Working Overtime" and "The Mayor of Simpleton". I still harbor resentment for even the most progressive radio stations in the 80s, which seemed to resent anything punk, new wave or too British. We were lucky to get The Clash. I will check out other songs from XTC, plus relive my memories with the other 2.
What could I add to your assessment of The Who? "Bargain" is such an excellent song, the music rocks and the lyrics are profound. In 1970, I was fortunate to see them live at Anaheim Stadium. Festival seating in the infield, we were drinking wine from bota bags, best concert I ever attended. I want you to check out the setlist to confirm:
www.setlist.fm/setlist/the-who…
While I bitch about the lack of competition to the Beatles, the pendulum has swung the other way, and now there is so much good music out there that it's hard to listen to all the good music. And now, instead of the record company and disc jockey filters, the mob is now controlling what we hear, through clicks. Why do I know anything about Billie Eilish? Because she's a press darling due to the amount of YouTube views.
Paul McCartney regularly plays in México. Why? Because he hasn't had a hit song in decades. What was Ringo's latest song? Compare them to Madonna. Love her or hate her, she had a 40 year career with memorable songs. The Beatles were successful for being the first not for being the best rock quartet. That honor belongs to The Who.

Rubes? are you calling yourself a country bumpkin? because Rubes, where i come from is a pretty insulting word Wayne and you're far from A bumpkin - anyways so you mean, they played Prog rock all the time over the radio stations instead of XTC and others?. i like progressive rock because of the complex Chord Progressions and strange Time Signatures. Bands like, Yes, Pink Floyd, ELP, Rush, Genesis, Kansas and a couple others i still find interesting even though some tracks are quite tedious and play over 16 mins long. I completely understand though what it must of been like for the youth now back in the early to mid 70's when Progressive Rock was Saturated everywhere and any young musician wanting to start a band up and then trying to learn prog- Rock, must have been a nightmare , tons of Chord Progressions Complex Lead Riff and solos, odd time signatures and drum patterns ! no wonder the Punk movement came about. Most early punk songs where less than 3 chords on a thrashed out Guitar and the Sound was pretty basic and raw but, The Ramones or the Sex Pistol, (the founders of punk in my opinion) man they made some cutting chaotic music which was fantastic and the rest of the movement followed.
The set list looked great. but then these guys are at the top of the pile when it comes to, ''best Rock Bands''
Oh man, seriously today music is a pile of Garbage, except for some really decent bands floating around out there in Music land. Hip-hop has become to commercialised, female artists literally are strippers that can Sing like warbling birdies, Billie Ellish whatever her name is, will be in some rehab clinic one day suffering for some Deep psychotic disorder because of her, Generation Z depressive Syndrome. her following is so vast and bloated online that it's going to burst soon Wayne mark my words.
Ah SIR' Paul McCartney hasn't wrote a good song since the 80's Wayne ha ! his song writing is pretty mediocre now, but we mustn't say to much, he's a fucking knight for the realm now hahaha...same with Ringo, songs''don't come easy '' for him lol...but never the less, they made some cool songs i personally admire when they were in The Beatles and gave me some great Songwriting avenues to explore. You know, i could say, Madonna is just another Pop star but no no no ! i think every silly little female pop-star has tried to imitate or copy Madonna over the years badly, they'll always be one one Madonna, she's a darn good songwriter too. lady Gaga has copied her so much it makes your head spin..But if i was A fan and i mean someone who gets upset if you dis their favourite band,i'd be dribbling and getting all upset you said that about the Who being the best but i'd agree with you 100% about the Who but i'll always tip my music hat to The Beatles.

All those progressive bands were popular back in the day. The FM radio stations, except fror KROQ, refused to play anything alternative. We did get plenty of Guns N Roses, Poison, Dire Straits, John Cougar Melloncamp, and Sting, all of whom I can't stand to this day. My salvation was that a local paper used to publish the UK top 10 and that's how I found my music. The music seemed much more sophisticated, hence my "rube" reference. Like Californians couldn't possibly appreciate British music, except the Who, Stones and Beatles.
Lady Gaga is a Madonna wanna be and to her credit, she realized it early on in her career and expanded into television and films. What was her latest hit? I can't remember anything after "Poker Face" and "Bad Romance", but they were 10 years ago. She was flash in the pan, similar to Billie Eilish. BTW, I just read an interview with Justin Beiber, who says he's concerned about young Billie and he says he'll be there for her if she needs him. Yeah, there's someone I'd go to for advice, Justin Beiber.
People rip Madonna, but your point about her being a darn good songwriter is spot-on. Most of her songs were personal in nature, but people identified with them. She always tried to reinvent herself and her music, not always successfully, but she always tried to give her public something different. Also, something many people don't realize, she actually knew how to play a musical instrument, the guitar. Most of today's music stars are overproduced, with auto tune and computer-generated music.
Nevertheless, one of the new groups I find irresistable is a New York electronic dance duo called Sofi Tukker. Even though they rely heavily on Tucker's electronics, Sophie can play guitar, and their live performances reveal they aren't totally dependent on studio computer tricks. In case you don't know them, here's a sample:

I have a dislike for those bands you mentioned also Wayne, although Dire Straits, And sting, i can just about stand. at least you understood and have an understanding of great bands.
That's true about Lady Gaga. hahahaha..man, Beiber,....BEIBER !!! why would anyone take advice from that little dancing muppet..i laugh so hard sometimes at the lack of talent but as long as you've got silly little Girls screaming and dribbling over idiots like this, they'll always have a platform.
I got no Criticism about Madonna. she's a true talent. ha ! oh man, that auto tune is pathetic, anyone can make a song now and sound like a constipated robot lol
You know, I've just listened to this Song now, ''Bat shit crazy'' and man, that is Quirky, contemporary and quite catchy - for me, saying that is unusual because i never get interested in this genre of music but that's pretty darn good. thanks for sharing.

James, I'm glad you listened to the song. They have so many good songs with different styles and themes. I chose Batshit because it shows Sophie playing guitar and singing in English. Many of their lyrics are in Portuguese, which is weird because she's German and he's American. When I listen to them I tend to overdose because they're so good.
As for the rest of contemporary music, I give up. It seems like record producers want the most mediocre songs and artists. You notice that the Super Bowl halftime show has been hard-pressed to find an act that can carry the load, so they get Bruno Mars and Maroon 5 or has-beens like Sir Paul and Red Hot Chili Peppers.
Thank God for YouTube and fellow deviants who recommend music to me.

Not consciously, but the tower is one of the go-to icons in my art, along with the arch, the pyramids and the Cerro de Chiquihuite.
Actually, the tower on the left is designed to be ascended on the inside by the skater, in order to skate down the spiral on the outside, building up speed to use on all the curves and ramps of the skate park.
Your Tower of Babel reference reminded me of this song. Not a hit, but some of Bernie Taupin's best writing.
