Bullfighting has been around since ancient times, but recently it has come under scrutiny by animal rights groups. México City is home to the monumental Plaza de Toros, the largest bullring in the world with seats for 48,000 people. Bullfight aficionados consider it to be a spectacle with deep cultural roots. Opponents also consider it to be a spectacle, although one with cruel and inhumane elements. With the exception of México, Spain, Colombia, Peru, and parts of Portugal and France, bullfighting is banned all over the world.

So true! Sometimes it's good to be beige. I get tired of passionate people who want to convince others of their point of view. It's better to express in art and not words. My red bull had nothing to do with bullfighting, it was about art.

Yes, just because someone draws a brutal murder, doesn't make them a serial killer. Most popular music artists describe rather frightening or dangerous scenarios but they most likely don't believe in it.

Fare enough. firstly. n.1 classing the artist as a serial killer? how on earth did you come to that conclusion? are there any comments stating the artists is a serial killer. n.2 opinions?, unless DA has become a dictatorship or some kind of Communist site, as far as i'm aware, everyone has the right, to an opinion - that's democracy and n.3, if you feel the Artist and yourself are facing a backlash and hate the fact that people have opinions, then i personally will stop following this artist immediately.

I understand about the traditions and bullfighting has been around since Ancient times. The appeal of Watching a human kill an animal is a monumental blood sport for many but it has a barbarism that stems back to Rome and the Colosseum or amphitheatres. i respect life no matter how great or how small any living being is. to watch a human tease an animal, torture an animal into death is pointless. 'let those who feel the need to be entertained by death, let them watch and feed their lust for blood, but leave me out of this cruel act''..
Putting my opinions aside and that's all it is, the painting depicts the dynamic and elaborate bravado of this sport. nice piece of artwork here Wayne.

Your passion is evident, James. I have never been to a bullfight. In fact, I knew nothing about it until I moved here. Bullfighting is covered fairly heavily by the sports media here. It does seem strange, but there's a lot of strange things in México. You know from the news that this is a violent culture, and has been since Aztec times. Many Mexicans accept bullfighting as "normal". I just found a photo in the newspaper and thought it would make a good painting. I never meant the painting to be an endorsement, just a painting.

Sometimes the bull does win and it's the matador who dies. One day the bullfight will be banned all over the world, but for now, it's popular in some countries.

Me too. I adopted 2 street dogs and give food to a dozen more. I also feed birds on my patio.
But I love hamburger. If you knew how cows are slaughtered, as an animal lover, you'd probably never eat beef again. If you saw how chickens are raised, you'd probably give up chicken, too.
I can't do anything about bullfighting. I don't want anything to suffer, but suffering is part of this world. Even plants suffer. They suffer heat, pests, lack of water, fungus, and cold at night. But the suffering of a plant, the suffering of an animal and the suffering of the human are three different things.

I also like a hamburger on its time and eat chicken. Hamburger made itself. Yes, animals must be killed for that. That's just the way it is. I have seen on TV how slaughtering is really terrible.
