I saw a handful of Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga posts on Tumblr, and my thoughts drifted to this scenario in the game.

What I absolutely love about the Mario & Luigi series (or just Superstar Saga, at least—I haven’t played any of the further games proceeding Partners in Time, so I can’t make assumptions ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ ) is that it acknowledges the consequences of bad choices and actions (or lack, thereof). For instance, early in the game, when you get the mushroom for one of the Toads, you can actually choose to keep it, but if you choose to be a good nugget and give it to him, you get a better reward. Heck, even towards the end of the game, when Prince Peasley comes over and tells you to hurry out before the place explodes, there’s an alternate ending if you don’t get out fast enough.

But anyway, one of my favorite scenarios has got to be this one where one of the “Bowser Baddies” asks you for directions. You’re given a set of choices, but if you choose what Mario over here picked, he hurries in the opposite direction, and when Bowser forms an assembly later on, he shows up, cursing you for it (okay, the game clearly shows that he merely said it in his mind—hence if you look closely he’s using a thought bubble instead of a speech one—but I thought making him actually say it to Mario in this comic would add more humor to the situation). The other choices, respectively, involve him running into a wall, coming in early (and he rewards you for it later in the Koopa Cruiser), and just remaining lost.

Before I settled into that last panel, I had to check for a Mario troll face, but wasn’t very successful, so I had to download the actual troll face and improvise it to make a Mario version. :T
Funny how a Yoshi troll face exists, and yet I can’t find a proper Mario or even a Luigi troll face. Hmm…
And I’ll never get tired of dat lenny face. >:^)
