Wow this turtle is gorgeous. *Yes I said gorgeous, I <3 turtles* The local zoo where I'm at has aΒ Alligator snapping turtle, & It's probably about as big as this one, close to the same age I bet.
I also agree, these type of turtles have aΒ ancientΒ look. I mean look at the moss on the turtle's back/head!

it is old in the zoo when they got it they didn't know how old it was and that was already 50 years ago, so it could be much older x)

My friend and I found a dead alligator snapping turtle in this little pond at the park here once. They're not native, so we assumed someone had dumped their pet turtle there when they couldn't take care of it. It must have happened a long time ago, or that turtle was already somewhat old when it was dumped, because it had died of old age. Scary lookin' things aren't they?

aww that's kind of sad, I hate it how people dump their turtles ,in our forest we now have turtles too while thye aren't native either xo I think they look pretty cute XD

Could've been a Common Snapping Turtle. They're native to more of the US than alligator snappers.

It was an alligator snapper, the common snappers don't get nearly as big as this guy did.
