Description
I was asked many times, which tool and how many pencils I used up to get to this point. So today I decided take a photo of my little tool box with all the simple tools I need. That includes different tortillons, eraser, pencils from 5H to 8B and pencil extension.
I always sharpen all pencils like this before starting a new drawing and my most used pencil is 2B.
Hmm, about how fast I use them up. Well, 4 months ago all pencils on the photo were almost new.
Don't worry, I've already bought new pencils

Hadn't thought of using a paint brush with pencils. I'll have to remember that. I may have to think about extending the length of my pencils. So far, I've just used a regular sharpener. I have a sand paper sharpener, but I haven't used it. Thanks for sharing.

And I always thought I was the only one who was crazy enough to sharpen pencils this much. I have to have all of mine like needles, I prefer them smooth though so I will start a new pencil with a razor blade then keep them sharp by sanding them with sandpaper pads. I do the same with my Prismacolours too but I start them with a normal metal pencil sharpener but the sandpaper pads are some of the best things to keep a good point on the little buggers, especial the more brittle shades.

I saw but I prefer the ones on the pressboard/wood slats. They're always perfectly flat so I can get a nice hard angle, with sandpaper sheets I find they are far too flexible. But I don't have a table to work on so everything is juggled in hands and lap I would think laying the paper sheets on a table would work much better then in hand. I have a huge drafting table but it won't fit in our apartment so it's in storage and I work on different sized clipboards on our couch.
I do admire your ability of soft shading, I don't have what it takes for it. It's not that I'm impatient but I get bored with keeping it going for a whole piece and end up back to my heavy handed style. It's just not my style even though I would like my style to be smoother. I know, I'm weird.
