Earthbound Zero is the most tedious so if you're going to play all 3 games start with that one or you're going to be angry at it since you'll be spoiled from playing the other two. (otherwise dont play it??)

I started with the second game, which is Earthbound. Haven't got far into Mother 3 yet but the pixel graphics are really beautiful and it's pretty fun so you should play that one too as well as Earthbound XD

I started playing Earthbound Zero the first game and I started playing Mother 3... but I think I better finish Earthbound Zero first because I know Mother 3 will spoil me because it is much more polished, prettier, better gameplay etc. I really really enjoyed Mother 2 though! Hope you can finish it someday XD

heheh, well, I actually only started and played through a bit of Earthbound Zero! (So I haven't tried 2 yet!) XD I'm sorta concerned they won't live up to 3's greatness, either, but I'm sure they'll still be great...! <3

So you recommend 2 over Zero? Maybe I'll play it first, then!

Since I haven't played much of Zero yet I'm not sure what to recommend first... But I hear Zero is more difficult? I sorta looked around on forums and it seems like Earthbound is the fan favorite... but then again it's the only one that was released officially in English. I hear good things about all the games though. XD
Just based on the beginnings of each game though... if the Earthbound games were people... Zero would be blunt, moody, mysterious. Earthbound is bright, poppy, strangely unsettling. Mother 3 seems adventurous, sensitive, colorful.

I just started playing mother 3- I might hold off on it to finish Earthbound Zero first though because I kind of want to save the prettier game for last lol-
I think the best thing about the Mother series is the humor XD It's the first time I actually WANTED to talk to all the NPCs hahaa~

I love how the art in mother 3 is, the pixels look so clear. Makes me think about how videogames nowadays look for 3D styles while this one looks so neat whithout havig to be so complicated.

Btw may I ask you how are you playing Zero? because I have the emulator and game but I can't use the controls I think I may need something else.

uhh you should be able to use the controls? Try going on the emulator's website and look for the default keys i had trouble finding them at first too

LOL or maybe its just cuz i have no musical skill and cant recognize the beat anyways and im just BLAMING it on the emulator XD i definitely need to go back and try again then!
