Description entry image to the Halo 5 Fan Art Contest.

Being a fan of the series, I never actually taken the time to draw Master Chief, so I took the competition as a good excuse to do so.
After a few thumbnails and sketches, I settled on this one. The initial intention was to depict a scene where he wouldn't normally be, but I wanted to tell a story (as every portrait does).
The final image result is a personal interpretation of who Master Chief is to me, or better yet how I remember him.

Nice action scene.  The blending of the Master Chief with the green shape in the background is a cool effect.

I forgot to comment last night and say what a unique entry this is. I was crawling through the majority last night- but this one is so different.
I love the effect/spatter of the gun firing~ and the focus on his face/visor really draws the eye.
Great movement too~~ ;D <3

Awesome! Oh man the gold really stands out and I am so glad you didn't use yellow on the gun spark/flash so it really focused in on the gold.

thanks man, glad to know it's working.
I really want to draw viewers' attention on the head part, that was the initial plan even before I laid down the first stroke.
I tried to make the rest of the image work around that idea; the way the flash aligns with his visor in relation to the gesture, the way his right arm, body and legs curves towards the head part, his left hand almost pointing towards his visor and bullet shells framing it. As well as rendering. the head part was rendered tighter than the body, while the legs are just silhouettes.
the gold visor was more of an experiment, I wasn't gonna put other colors apart form a flat green at first, but when I quickly painted some warm yellows, I thought it could work so I went on with it.

Mate the colours and flow all points to the visor. I didn't even notice that you had the thumb pointing out to the visor! GOD THAT IS GENIUS! And the little flick of grey/blue in the visor is also a stroke of genius HAHAHHAHA
