Description
I hate when people (or bodies of people IE governments etc) do things in Gods (or Allah or whatever you want to call him/her/it/them) name! Most of us have sort of forgotten whats going on over there in Iraq. That doesn't mean its not happening anymore. We've just started to get used to the thought. Whether we like it or not.Anyway, back to the topic:
I get frustrated when people (or governments) say they follow god and then do something like.... Invade a country?? This piece is dedicated to using God as an excuse for evil.
Just sick of people going out and doing things in Gods name....
And now i'm very sleepy!
*goes to sleep*
DD! WOW! THANKYOU SO MUCH!
Go check these peeps out!
THANKYOU!
I will try and reply to all your comments and such but it might take a little while...
P.S. It seems that some people are wondering how religion comes into play here. One of my main points in this argument is the official US motto. 'In God We Trust'. ( See here: [link] )
I do not believe that you can say such a thing, such a bold statement, without at least IMPLYING that everything you do is of god.
Once you begin to portray your allegiance (If you will) In such a way, you can no longer really separate the two anymore (State and religion).
But thats my belief anyway...
EDIT: Uploaded separate print version because I had to screw with the image to get it a little larger for print. See:

Maybe you could have made you church less virginal white, more like a Las Vegas church with neon signs advertising the real interests such as oil companies, the arms companies, the Bush administration....

Thats an idea! Hmmm. Only that I didnt want to loose the idea in the complexity of the image.

I like how the tanks' model looks more complex and detailed compared to the other models, like it symbolizes how war makes things unnecessarily complicated.

my only crit, and I suppose I'm not the only one to notice it, is that it's not really clear wheter the people enter the church, or leave it (it looks as if they're leaving it)

As someone has mentioned before, I think both directions work. People coming back from war rejecting their religion because they realize its not right.
I didnt want to complicate the image further. Less is more right? Though i suppose a simple arrow on the ground would have done the trick..

Well, in my opinion, since the tanks are pointing away from the church, the people must be going towards it. I don't know, haha.

Thats so true. In middle east war has become a living organism that feeds it self. Religions only encourage people to take arms.

I'm sick of that as well. Here in America, the republicans were voted into office over the years for the three G's, God, Guns, and Gays. But then when they got into office, they didn't do anything about them. (or at least took their sweet time about it)
Now I don't know much about the Islamic religion, but I do know that my god would want peace on the earth. And not have his preachings forced onto someone. If someone doesn't want to convert, you will not be able to convert them. They have to be open and want to learn about your religion.

Exactly! How can I be truly a believer if im being forced to believe something I dont agree with?

yeah, and then the people who DO force their religions on people just make a bad name for their religion. It's a lose lose situation.

I'm glad you didn't limit your comments to just God and included other religions because people have been fighting in the name of religion for ...well... as long as history can remember

The main reason I chose Christianity for this was because thats what has been the most prominent religion in my life. Other religions have their faults just like Christianity or any other large body.

GrimAngel In reply to B0073D [2009-02-28 13:37:37 +0000 UTC]
ah, but is that the fault of the religion... or the people following it that is the question

B0073D In reply to GrimAngel [2009-02-28 13:55:18 +0000 UTC]
Well thats just it. I think that the religion and the church are the one and the same. They are the ones who 'control' religion. And because humans control it, it will be corrupt.

GrimAngel In reply to B0073D [2009-03-02 18:40:43 +0000 UTC]
I'll have to agree with you on that. I think religion can be separated from the "church". there are so many churches many of which believe in the same god. and these churches have different beliefs. And despite religious beliefs people will continue to do that which they want. it's really hard to demonstrate this in the confines of a comment as well

Good render, with a very good backstory.
You might want to raise the global illumination samples&hotons a bit, the result is very noise as it is now (the church for example)

I used an unbiased renderer for this hence the noisiness. But it turned out ok. looks kinda like a newspaper clipping. lol.

I completely agree with you!
Religion is so often used as an excuse to start a war or conflict. And it's rarely, if ever, the true reason to start something violent, it's just a convenient excuse.

Agreed!
I just remember the movie (The kingdom of heaven)
"We must strike now!"
And someone in the background yells
"GOD WILLS IT!"

Look... I'm not great at politics, but from I can tell... America is to blame... we but into other countries' business way too much... the war in Iraq was completely unnessecary, as we never found any WMDs, and it's probable Saddam never had any, nor did he have any materials to build them...
Obama's plans seem to be great ideas, but don't get too excited... communism worked on paper, too... we can only wait and see...
