Description I hate when people (or bodies of people IE governments etc) do things in Gods (or Allah or whatever you want to call him/her/it/them) name! Most of us have sort of forgotten whats going on over there in Iraq. That doesn't mean its not happening anymore. We've just started to get used to the thought. Whether we like it or not.

Anyway, back to the topic:
I get frustrated when people (or governments) say they follow god and then do something like.... Invade a country?? This piece is dedicated to using God as an excuse for evil.

Just sick of people going out and doing things in Gods name....

And now i'm very sleepy!

*goes to sleep*

DD! WOW! THANKYOU SO MUCH!

Go check these peeps out!

THANKYOU!

I will try and reply to all your comments and such but it might take a little while...

P.S. It seems that some people are wondering how religion comes into play here. One of my main points in this argument is the official US motto. 'In God We Trust'. ( See here: [link] )

I do not believe that you can say such a thing, such a bold statement, without at least IMPLYING that everything you do is of god.

Once you begin to portray your allegiance (If you will) In such a way, you can no longer really separate the two anymore (State and religion).

But thats my belief anyway...

EDIT: Uploaded separate print version because I had to screw with the image to get it a little larger for print. See:

I have to say this, Muslims, and Islams and quite a few other religous peoples, wage war because they truly believe that their god tells them to. Their religious text that they base their very life on, tells them specificly to wage war against those who don't believe in their faith. That is why there really can't be peace in the south-west asia, as long as the people have conflicting beliefs, and those beliefs instruct them to kill the other, that's what will happen.

Now on to you art, while I personally don't believe in the message that it is conveying(the cross is a universal sign for Christianity and only the fanatics that take the Bible the wrong way are actually anything like that), it is a very nice piece of work.

B0073D In reply to t33n1ckXIII [2009-02-28 08:22:14 +0000 UTC]

I agree. There will always be war when both sides believe they are on the side of god (Be it allah or whomever)

There will always be elements in Christianity that resist other doctrines etc and cause conflict.

I chose to use the cross because it IS so general. Sometimes you have to exaggerate to get people thinking.

Im not saying that all Christians are evil or in any way like this. But I AM saying that they need to THINK.

Call me the Devil's advocate (oh, the irony XD) but I know quite a few churches/denominations that don't pursue war with God's brandname. Mind you, I'm aware of the current suicide bombings, the Crusades, and what have you, but in the modern era, many religious groups oppose war or only approach it from a "we're supportive of our country" or "support the soldiers, not the cause" point of view. (at least in non-radical American Christians.) If someone with better knowledge can provide proof otherwise, than by all means correct me. I'm open for discussion.

In any case, nice rendering, good composition, and congrats on the DD.

I agree with you. There ARE quite a few churches that dont persue war with gods brandname (I myself having belonged to one at one stage)

However, that does not change the fact that it IS happening.

The fact that the government aligns itself with god (In more than one way, the most promenant being 'In god we trust' And then invades a country, kills hundreds of people etc etc.

THAT is my problem.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

theoriginalhappydais In reply to B0073D [2009-02-28 14:46:10 +0000 UTC]

I see your point. Most countries have either religious beginnings (Pilgrims came to America for religious freedom, Nation of Israel founded in Biblical times due to teachings of Torah (read: God)) or hold some small threads. (Like the "In God We Trust" line.) Of course, there are most definentely theocracies (particularly in the Middle East) that act in their god's name, usually violently. However, if a country performs an act of mercy to another country (like relief aid, or what have you) and it is parallel to the "do mercy" teachings of the prominent religious group in the first country, is it acting under that religion's banner? (Just wondering. )

And yes, killing is absolutely wrong.

Hmmmm... An Interesting question!

I suppose yes they would be. But that doesnt justify the other things that have happened. If that makes any sense.

Like all things, it depends on how and why.

Gref313 In reply to ??? [2009-02-28 02:17:56 +0000 UTC]

Um.... lets see here. People justifying horrible actions in the name of God is very bad, I agree. But religion (depicted here is christianity) is not a factory or machine that pumps out eager soldiers and war machines. I agree, it usually does not help a wartime disagreement, but come on. Even If this was not your intention, this image seems a little over-simplified and can be easily misunderstood.

Better than overly complicated and not understood at all.

though this may be true, it doesnt make God an evil thing. God diddnt cause the war, Bush did that. but either way we just need to remember that even though God can control everything in the universe witha flick of His eylash, that he does things in His time.
